Community knits hats for Peterson Elementary kindergarten students
Peterson Elementary School is proud to announce the successful completion of a heartwarming community-driven project that provided hand-knitted hats to all 115 kindergarten students at the school. What began as a small initiative to knit hats for one kindergarten classroom quickly blossomed into a beautiful display of generosity and love from community members from various churches.
Title I Pre-K Applications now open for the 2025-2026 school year! Apply by April 4!
Applications for Title I Pre-K for the 2025-2026 school year are now being accepted. Applications can be picked up from your school of choice during the regular school day and should be returned no later than April 4, 2025.
Se están aceptando solicitudes para Pre-K del Título I para el año escolar 2025-2026. Las solicitudes se pueden recoger en la escuela de su elección durante el día escolar regular y deben devolverse a más tardar el 4 de abril de 2025.

PSRC Mental Health Minute: January is Mental Wellness Month
January is Mental Wellness Month, a time to prioritize our mental health and well-being. As we step into the new year, it’s an opportunity to build new habits that nurture our minds, setting the tone for a healthier, more balanced year ahead. Remember, taking care of your mental health is an ongoing journey that deserves attention and care.
FAFSA Information and Quick Links for Parents/Students
All high schools will host FAFSA days on: February 20, 2025 and April 15, 2025. Representatives from UNC-P and RCC will be on high school campuses to assist with FAFSA completion. An additional two dates will be shared by each high school.
Driven 2 Excel returns, qualifying PSRC seniors have a chance to win a 2024 Honda Civic!
Beasley Media Group’s “Driven 2 Excel” program is a community enhancement campaign designed to reward high school seniors in Robeson County who achieve high levels of academic achievement and exemplary attendance records throughout the 2024-2025 school year. In conjunction with the Public Schools of Robeson County and other community partners, Beasley Media Group has joined with local dealerships and businesses to reward qualifying students with fantastic incentives for scholastic performance. Driven 2 Excel is sponsored by Lumberton Honda and Piedmont Natural Gas.
If you’re a Robeson County Schools student, reach out to your guidance counselor for more information on how you can qualify to win a 2024 Honda Civic, just by having great grades and attendance!

Dr. Connie Locklear to serve on NIEA Board of Directors
The Public Schools of Robeson County’s Indian Education Program director Dr. Connie Locklear has been elected to serve on the National Indian Education Association Board of Directors.
Thompson elected to NCPTA Board of Directors
PSRC Family Engagement Specialist Brendalyn Thompson has been elected to serve on the North Carolina Parent Teacher Association Board of Directors.
Peterson Elementary awarded $10,912 for educational field trip to NC Museum of Science and NC Freedom Park
Peterson Elementary students will embark on an exciting educational trip to the North Carolina Museum of Science and NC Freedom Park thanks to more than $10,000 from the Learning Happens Here Field Trip Fund.
The $10,912 is provided through the Learning Happens Here Field Trip Fund operated by the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR), which will fully reimburse the school for the field trip expenses.
PSRC welcomes new Director of Student Services
The Public Schools of Robeson County recently welcomed Dr. Sheri Dial Herndon to serve as Director of Student Services.

PSRC Staff Reflect on Life-Changing Experience Supporting Buncombe County Schools After Hurricane Helene
Multiple PSRC staff members united to support Buncombe County schools as students returned to learn in schools in October following the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene on western North Carolina. In their efforts to assist and provide aid, they too were profoundly affected by the experience.
Apex ACT Tutorials High School Challenge continues through February 14!
From November 12 – February 14, 2025, high school students will compete to become the PSRC Apex ACT Tutorials Champion!
Fairmont High's Jordyn Hunt honored for youth advocacy efforts in Raleigh
NC Child selected 16 students in N.C. to be members of a council that represents the diversity and experiences of N.C.'s youth. Throughout the year, they met with elected officials, shared their stories, helped NC Child convene community events, and advocated for issues, including youth mental health access. Fairmont High School student Jordyn Hunt served as a member of the N.C. Youth Advocacy Council and was recently recognized in Raleigh, N.C., as the group shared their work and participated in meaningful conversations about the importance of youth advocacy and mental health.
PSRC Technology Director named Sandhills Region Technology Director of the Year
Congratulations, Mr. Teal!
The Public Schools of Robeson County’s Director of Technology was named the Technology Director of the Year for the Sandhills Region and will advance to compete for the state-level award.
Everette Teal was selected by Chief Technology Officers across the region to receive the distinction and advance to the state for the selection process of the Technology Director of the Year for North Carolina.
Teal will receive the Sandhills award at the NC Technology in Education Conference on March 5, 2025 in Raleigh. The Technology Director of the Year for North Carolina will also be announced during the conference.
Join our Parental Advisory Committee!
This is your invitation to join our District Parental Advisory Committee, affectionately known as the "Robeson County P.A.C."
Our Parental Advisory Committee will represent the voice of PSRC parents/caregivers and students in our district. Collectively and individually, this committee will act as a sounding board and resource for our district's initiative to build and maintain family-school partnerships in alignment with the strategic plan and our Title I Parent and Family Engagement Plan.
The role of the committee is to provide advice and assistance to the district regarding any matter relating to programs and services in order to help the district attain its goal of providing all students with the best education possible. It will also serve to inform, encourage, and provide opportunities for parents and community members to be involved in the planning and improvement process.
