Honoring Our School Business Partners
Thank you to our amazing school business partners for supporting our Begich community. They have collaborated with us in creative, meaningful ways from donating to student and staff events to conducting mock interviews for our 8th grade careers class. Begich students give back to Starbucks by delivering the best of our artwork, which is proudly displayed in the main entrance of Starbucks.
We are so thankful for Starbucks and all of our generous school business partners!

Happy April & Springtime from the Begich P.E. Team! Bring on the daylight and warmer temps!
We’re excited to get classes outside as we transition to new activities. Melting snow allows for outdoor P.E units such as flag football, track & field, soccer, frisbee golf, and ultimate frisbee. Students can expect to complete their one-mile runs on the outdoor track as well.
As always, please encourage your student to come to class prepared with a can-do attitude. Let’s finish the school year strong, Snow Leopards!
April is School Library Month!
April is School Library Month, a time to celebrate the impact that school libraries have on student learning and growth! The school library is more than just a place to check out books—it’s a hub for discovery, creativity, and critical thinking. Here’s why the library matters and how you can encourage your child to take advantage of all it has to offer!
Why the School Library is Important:
Encourages a Love for Reading: A well-stocked library gives students access to books that match their interests, helping them develop a lifelong love for reading.
Supports Academic Success: Research shows that students who use the library regularly perform better in school, gaining stronger reading and research skills.
Provides a Safe & Welcoming Space: The library is a place where students can explore new ideas, work on projects, and receive guidance from the librarian.
Promotes Digital Literacy: In today’s digital world, learning how to find and evaluate online information is a crucial skill—one that the school library helps students develop!
The school library is a powerful resource for your middle schooler’s academic and personal growth. In observance of this month-long celebration, there will be many events and activities happening in the Begich Library. Scavenger hunts, games, and art projects are just some of the planned activities to get students involved in the library and participate in School Library Month.
NJHS Applications Due for 7th Graders - April 17th
Dear Current 7th Graders,
Are you someone who strives for excellence when it comes to academics? Do you find yourself wanting to give back to the community? Do you enjoy being part of a team with a purpose? If so, you should consider joining NJHS!
The National Junior Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding students in middle school. Since 1929, NJHS has been honoring those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in NHS (High School Program) and NJHS activities. Chapters of these organizations are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but also challenges them to grow through active involvement in school activities and community service.
Membership in the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a middle school student. Our chapter has worked hard to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and the community. Our chapter strives to give practical meaning to the Society’s standards of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. These five ideals are considered as the basis for selection. No student is inducted simply because of a high academic average. The National Junior Honor Society strives to recognize the total student—one who excels in all of these areas.
If you are interested in being a school leader and joining NJHS, please see Mrs. Smiley or Ms. Kornely for an application in B105/B107. Completed applications are due by Thursday, April 17th.
