Wildcat Tales
You belong here!
Week of May 19-23
Wildcat Families,
My Good Thing this week has been attending our choir concert this week. The kids sounded great! I was also able to attend MHS and HHS Scholarship Night; while presenting the Once a Wildcat, Always a Wildcat Scholarship, the Seniors that attended WGMS were still able to recite our 4 P's. 💙
Our Lost and Found will be donated at the end of the school year. Encourage your child to check out Lost and Found before next Thursday!
Thursday is an early release day at 1 p.m. You can check out our early release schedule here.
Important Safety Reminder for Parents and Guardians
Please take a moment to speak with your child about the serious dangers of inserting metal objects or pencil lead into electrical outlets or Chromebook ports. A viral trend, known as the "Chromebook Challenge," has been circulating and poses a major safety risk.
This behavior can cause sparks, electrical fires, and serious injuries. It is extremely dangerous and will not be tolerated. Any student engaging in this activity will face disciplinary action.
Thank you for helping us keep all students safe.
MISD 2025 Device Pick-up
Technology will be picking up all devices for summer repairs. Starting Monday, May 19, we will have students turn in their Chromebooks and chargers. Make sure your child brings their Chromebook and charger with them on the following days:
5/19/2025-6th grade pick-up
5/20/2025-7th grade pick-up
5/21/2025-8th grade pick-up
5/22/2025-final pick-up all grades
For students attending summer school, we will bring their devices to summer school and take them back up at the end of summer school.
All devices not turned in will be shut down immediately and students will not be able to use them over the summer.
End of the Year Capturing Kids' Hearts Survey
Please take our EOY CKH survey. This survey allows our campus to look back on what we did well and how we can improve with our Capturing Kids' Hearts implementation. Our staff and students complete a survey as well so everyone can give feedback regarding CKH. Thank your for your help!
Eligible Courses for Semester Exam Exemptions: pp. 16-17 Parent MISD Grading Guideline Handbook 24-25
- Middle School courses that count as High School credit (fall and spring semester)
High School Courses Grades 9-12 (fall and spring semester)
Requirements for semester exam exemptions:
Students that have been placed into ISS (in-school suspension) or DAEP during the current semester are not eligible to be exempt from final exams.
Students must meet the above behavior, grade and absence requirements to be eligible for the exemption in a class.
Grades are cut off on W1+W2+Progress 3 (fall) or W3+W4+Progress 5 (spring) to determine exemption status.
In the event that a student qualifies for an exemption on the progress report, but their grade drops after the progress report, the teacher must use the progress grade to allow for the student exemption. However, teachers can use the most current grade in the gradebook after the progress report to allow for an exemption.
Students who have earned an exemption may choose to take the semester exam to improve their semester grade.
Semester grades will be the average of the three 6-weeks for that semester of exempt students.
Absence on the day of exam counts towards exemption.
Students who take an EOC will follow the above guidelines for semester exemptions.
Students in AP courses will follow the above guidelines for semester exemptions.
Students in Dual Credit courses will follow the higher education institution assessment/exam guidelines.
Attention 6th grade parents
Dear 6th-Grade Parents,
As required by the State of Texas, all students must receive the Meningococcal and Tdap vaccines before starting 7th grade or have a dose administered on or after their 11th birthday.
If your child has already received these vaccines, please email me a copy of their immunization record, including their name and vaccine details, so I can update Skyward accordingly.
To assist families, MISD will host a vaccine clinic on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 8 AM to 12 PM at the Midlothian High School Cafeteria. You can find more details in the attached flyer or sign up here: Vaccine Clinic Sign-Up.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me by phone or email.
Best regards,
Mandy Berry, RN, BSN, CPN

Wildcat Parent Volunteer Sign-Up Form
What is a Wildcat Parent Volunteer?
We are a group of Wildcat parents who donate goodies to the Walnut Grove staff once a month. This is usually in the form of breakfast, lunch, and snacks for all staff on campus.
How can you help?
There are a few ways you can help.
1) You can sign up to be a donation supporter. A donation supporter is for our families who cannot necessarily be away from their home or office during the school day but want to be part of the WPV group. Monthly, we would send out a request for donations. This is usually sent via Venmo and the funds are used to purchase meals and snacks for that month's event.
2)If you have free time and like to be more hands on, you can sign up to help us decorate the designated area for that month. This is usually done in the front office conference room. We arrive on campus around 10:30 AM and are typically wrapping up around 1:10 PM. You would not have to commit to the whole time slot. We decorate and then help serve the food, restock between lunches, etc. Any amount of time you are able to give is greatly appreciated.
3) Do you own a business and want to get your name out to Walnut Grove teachers and staff? We would love to partner with you and have you sponsor a meal for us that month or even sponsor only the drinks or a dessert option for the month.
We have lots of ways for you to be involved. If this sounds like something you would like to participate in, please complete this Google Form and we will add you to our group communication.
Thank you so much for your interest in joining the Wildcat Parent Volunteers.

Vape Sensors
Dear MISD Parents,
Safety and security are a top priority in MISD. As an added layer of student safety, vape sensors have been installed throughout all MISD secondary campuses serving grades six and above. The installation of the sensors supports legislative requirements set forth by House Bill 114 that went into effect with the start of the 2023-24 school year. The new law takes a strong stance on prohibiting the possession and use of vape devices at school. Any student who possesses or uses a vape device of any kind on school grounds is subject to disciplinary placement in DAEP and the student's ability to participate in extracurricular activities could be impacted. The law also requires the district to notify School Resource Officers (SROs) about violations. Vape device use of THC is subject to felony drug charges. Parents may reference Texas Health and Safety Penal Code 481.002(26) for more information. Installed sensors are equipped with tamper detection software and should not be touched. This includes throwing anything at the sensors. Students will be held accountable and subject to disciplinary consequences in accordance with the district’s Student Code of Conduct policy if they tamper with a detection device. Thank you for your partnership and support as we work together to keep our students safe. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school. Sincerely, Midlothian ISD
