Weekly Inspiration
Sui Tial - Heritage Chin
Your inspiration this week is from our own, Sui Tial. Some of you may have seen the news stories; but if you didn't, here is the time to read/listen up on the awesomeness happening at SHS!
Along with teaching math this year, Sui Tial is also taking on the Heritage Chin class at SHS and PMHS. This new class was highlighted in the news and we appreciate Mrs. Tial opening her classroom to news reporters and cameras. Below are links from some of the coverage:

Sam Hanley - Yearbook & School Pictures
Mr. Hanley met the Lifetouch staff members at 5:30am in order to setup for the SHS picture day. Even though there were issues missing a camera and having a few photographers late, the day was a huge success. Thank you to Mr. Hanley and the yearbook staff for planning sure a seamless picture day!
Amy Peddie - EL Work-Based Learning Class
Members of the Perry Township HR department visited Amy Peddie's work-based learning class this week. They explained the requirements to apply, where to apply for jobs, and the hiring process. Our students benefited from the "hiring experts" in Perry Township and it was a great way to connect students with HR.
David Luers - AP US History
Mr. Luers' AP US History class engaged in a deep exploration of the various meanings conveyed in Dr. King’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech, drawing insightful comparisons to today’s political climate.
Amy Honeycutt - Work-Based Learning = Coffee Cart
Mrs. Honeycutt's work-based learning class is out and about delivering coffee, hot chocolate, and tea. Staff, be sure to order from the SHS coffee cart so our students can work on their job-related skills of communication, drink production, customer service, money management, and organization.
Julie Fierce - 15 Year Pin & Counseling Department Awards
Mrs. Fierce received her 15 years of service in Perry Township pin during the district principal's meeting last week. Congratulations to Julie and we appreciate the time, energy and committment she gives to SHS!
Also, the SHS Counseling Program has once again been honored with the IDOE Gold Star School Counseling Award. This prestigious recognition is a testament to the dedication and countless hours our school counselors have invested in creating a vision-driven and data-informed comprehensive program. Their efforts have been instrumental in addressing the academic, college, career, and well-being needs of our students.
We are also excited to announce that we will be applying for the American School Counselor Association's RAMP (Recognized ASCA Model Program) award. This national recognition is granted to a select number of schools each year, and we are optimistic about the outcome.
Please join me in congratulating our school counselors on another outstanding achievement!
Mentor Teacher ILT
After school on Thursday, we held our first full mentor ILT (Instructional Leadership Team) meeting. Teachers discussed their new teacher support and identified topics for future new teacher meetings. The group then reviewed the 8 SIOP components and made connections to the NIET rubric. It was a great afternoon of reflection, planning, and learning together.
Melisha Harris - Adapted Biology
Ms. Harris took her students outside for an opportunity to identify and classify living vs. non-living things. The students were able to engage with the world around them during this engaging activity.
Joe Horvath - Cafeteria Connections
Mr. Horvath does his best to spend 4th lunch making connections with students - especially those from Mrs. Egan and Mrs. Roll's classes.
