This week means great things to come!

On Wednesday we will have our Kindergarten promotion and 6th Grade Tunnel. Thursday will be our 6th Grade Promotion. It will be an exciting time.

Over this past week, we experienced fantastic music concerts with Ms. Karie and our TK-4th grade students. We recognized our 3rd Trimester RAD Award winners. Our 1st grade students performed an evening of reading and poetry. Our 5th and 6th grade students represented Nohl Canyon at the OUSD Art Expo. Fantastic stuff!

This last week of school will be free dress. We ask all 3rd Trimester RAD award winners to wear/bring a Nohl Canyon Polo for a group photo first thing Monday.

Please keep in mind that Thursday is the last day of school and that we will be on Minimum Day Schedule. Students will finish the day at 12:10, 12:25, or 12:30.

Unable to Return for the 2024-25 School Year

If your student is currently enrolled, but will be unable to attend Nohl Canyon for the 2024-25 school year, please complete this one-minute form.

If you will be returning to Nohl Canyon for the 2024-25 school year and Nohl Canyon is your school of residence, there is nothing for you to do.

Returning - Open Enrollment Families

If you will be returning to Nohl Canyon for the 2024-25 school year and your student attends Nohl Canyon on Open Enrollment, please be sure you have completed an Open Enrollment form for each of your kiddos.

SCC College For Kids

UPDATE:

We had a huge community response for the SCC’s Summer College for Kids program. OUSD paid classes have reached their capacity and so the registration site is now closed.

Parents can still register their students for fee-based classes. The registration site for this is www.sac.edu/cms.

Parents looking to switch the classes that they already registered for or have questions, they can contact SCC directly at scccs@sccollege.edu or 714-628-4960.

CARES Summer Options 2024

Options for Summer 2024

CARES Summer Camp- Parent Paid Option ($220.00 per week) Registration begins Monday, April 22, 2024 @ 9:00am, for current enrolled families, then outside registration will take place the following week Monday, April 29, 2024. Locations: Chapman Hills, Crescent OPK, Fletcher, and McPherson. Hours- 7:00am to 6:00pm.
Incoming TK & K CARES Camp- Parent Paid Option ($220.00 per week) Registration begins Monday, April 22, 2024 @ 9:00am.
Age-appropriate activities and field trips.

Summer Enrichment Program- Registration begins Monday, May 6, 2024 @ 9:00am Hosted by Strategic Kids and enrichment partners; Discovery Cube, Active Learning, Afterschool Music Academy and We Break Dance.

California Kids Investment and Development Savings Program (CalKIDS)

California Kids Investment and Development Savings Program (CalKIDS), launched in 2022, aims to prepare California children for post-secondary education expenses financially. Eligible low-income public school students in grades 1-12 and all California newborns, regardless of income, automatically receive funded savings accounts through CalKIDS. Students within our District may be eligible to access these funds upon enrollment in higher education institutions, utilizing them for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and other educational expenses. Low-income California public school students identified by the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) were automatically enrolled in CalKIDS if registered in grades 1-12 during the 2021-22 school year or in 1st grade during the 2022-23 school year.

Cell Phone Use - "NO CELL, BELL to BELL"

Nohl Canyon is beginning to see more students carrying their own cell phones. Please discuss with your child the guidelines for cell phones/communication devices (watches) while at school:

1) NO CELL from BELL to BELL - cell phones need to be turned OFF and stored in students backpack from first bell to dismissal bell.

2) Students who need to contact parents/guardians are expected to come to the front office to make the phone call.

3) Students who do not follow the guidelines:

1st occurrence: warning - expected to place phone back in backpack

2nd occurrence: cell phone confiscated - Parent Pick-up in office

OUSD Open Enrollment:

The Online “Open Enrollment” period began on Monday, January 15, 2024, and ends at 4:00PM on Monday, January 29, 2024. Lotteries have been held. Open Enrollment is now reopened.

*Open Enrollment is the process for families to apply to attend a school not in their residential boundaries. Current Nohl Canyon Open Enrollment students still need to complete the process each school year.

TK / Kindergarten Registration Open for 2024-25

For Nohl Canyon resident families, TK / Kindergarten enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year begins on Wednesday, January 17th.

Kindergarten eligible dates:

Birthdate between September 2, 2018 and September 1, 2019

TK eligible dates:

Birthdate between September 2, 2019 to June 12, 2020

Parking Lot Procedures

Thank you for making our parking lot procedures during drop-off and pick-up a safe and efficient machine. We serve a large number of vehicles in short period of time.

Thank you for your continued help with a few critical items:

Please remember our Lower lot is Staff Only Parking. The lower entrance on Nohl Canyon RD is ENTRANCE ONLY in the Afternoon for Middle Lane traffic going to park in the FAR lot. Two-way use of this entrance presents a significant hazard to entering cars and pedestrian traffic.
Please be kind to our parking lot volunteers. They make the whole thing work.
Please ask your kiddos to walk when in front of school. Running children in the pick up area presents several hazards. Safety is our first priority.
Trinity School Parking Lot is CLOSED for drop-off and pick-up parking.

Parents, with respect to Trinity Pre-School and their families, we are not allowing Nohl Canyon families to park in the Trinity parking lot. Please follow this guideline and support us in keeping a positive community relationship with Trinity School. Trinity will often allow us to use their lot for special events but should not be used for drop-off or pick-up.
Please remain clear of the Trinity lawn areas. Trinity lawns should not be used for student waiting for drop-off or pick-up. Students should always be picked up from our school site. If students are still here after 2:40pm, we bring them behind our school gates into our QUAD area for safety until parent pick-up. Please do not have your students wait at the Trinity site for pick-up.
Please be sure to use crosswalks when crossing all major roads. Students being dropped off on Nohl Canyon Rd. and then proceeding across the street, presents a significant hazard to those students.
Keep in mind, the Nohl Canyon Rd. entrance to our parking area is only to be used during afternoon pick-up and is limited to Middle Lane traffic that is pulling all the way through the lot to park in the back school lot.

2023-2024 STUDENT CALENDAR / ATTENDANCE

In the 2022-2023 school year, we are pleased to announce that 25 students earned PERFECT ATTENDANCE and Nohl Canyon had an overall 95% attendance rate!

UNIFORM POLICY:

Tops – Nohl Canyon Uniform shirts are to be worn each day. NC Spirit shirts are allowed throughout the week, along with scheduled themed days (Wednesday = College day). Nohl Canyon allows Free Dress on the final Friday of each month.

Bottoms – Uniform bottoms are to be any type (jeans and leggings included) of solid bottoms with no holes, stripes, or patterns. Colors are Black, Blue, Khaki, uniform plaid.

*Sweatpants not allowed

*Closed Toe shoes only (Crocs not allowed)

School Uniform Policy

As Fall is upon us, and the seasons are changing, please take a moment to review the Nohl Canyon Uniform Policy:

Nohl Canyon has a student uniform policy that is in alignment with the districts uniform policy. Schools whose students wear uniforms have indicated that a uniform policy is a creative and positive way to increase student achievement and decreases student behavioral problems. Based upon the interest of Nohl Canyon parents and staff, our school will continue with our Student Uniform Policy.

Shoes - Shoes should be closed toe with non-slip soles and allow for safe freedom of movement to accommodate physical education and active, safe play. Crocs are not allowed due to slip and support concerns during active play.
