Dear Lanoka Families,
The staff at Lanoka Harbor School hopes everyone had a restful, but fun spring recess. We could not have asked for a more cosmic return to school than to have a rare solar eclipse mark the day. Thanks to Mr. Zylinski and Mrs. Amos who worked to provide the students with the necessary safety glasses to view the eclipse, the students were very excited and interested as they took in the event while boarding the buses on April 8th.
Now that we are back, we turn our attention to some other fun in-school activities such as band performances, class trips, and assemblies. We also welcome the challenges set in front of us as we will soon enter our NJSLA testing window. This has been a strong year for the students at LHS and it is our goal to finish the year strong and not let any challenges placed in front of us, from the State or otherwise, prevent us from making the most of our experiences.
Over break, we hope that you had time to find something educational to do or talk about with your child. One of the best things to do is to have them write about their experiences. We also encourage everyone to read for at least 20 minutes daily. It is not important what you read with your child, so long as it sparks their interest and they are reading. That way they enjoy the content and will enjoy the time with you, just as I am sure you will enjoy the time watching them grow and develop as they master those skills. Those simple and easy things will make a huge difference in the development of your child’s literacy skills.
Together we are better, and the Power is Always in The PRIDE!
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Brewer, Ed.D.
LHS Principal

MUSIC CLASS OF THE WEEK
READ ACROSS AMERICA
Lanoka Harbor School celebrated National Read Across America Day on March 1st. This day was originally established by the National Education Association in 1998 to help get children excited about reading. The day takes place on the birthday of Dr. Seuss, the beloved children's author. On National Read Across America Day, students, teachers, and parents around that nation come together to read books and celebrate the joy of reading.
Here at Lanoka Harbor School many of the classes enjoyed special guest readers who came to read a book to the class. Members of the Lacey Woman's Club also served as guest readers and sponsored a poster contest. The winners were as follows:
1st place - Reeve Dunlevy
2nd place - Connor Murphy
3rd place - Sarah Buchner
Thanks to the participation of many guest readers, the day was enjoyed by all!
