Summer Reading
How to Keep Growing as Readers Over the Summer
Twenty Minutes a Day (at least)
A healthy person also makes time for reading. Families can help by setting aside at least twenty minutes for reading each day. Read anything! Read alone, or read together. Read in a tent or in a car; read at the kitchen table or cuddled up in bed. Just read!
Every. Single. Day.
Sometimes students say they don't have enough time for reading. "Mom says I'm too busy to read." What that really means is that the reading feels too hard. If that happens, try reading together. Or try picture books, graphic novels, or magazines. Take a trip to the library and see what the librarian recommends. But you can always find twenty minutes for reading.
Make your reading health a priority! This will help you your whole life through.

Reading isn't just books!
There are so many ways you can practice reading as a family.
Consider looking up some recipes and working together to make them. The following ones are from a website called "Activity Mom" and are meant for beginning readers.
You could also make some crafts. Follow the directions in the link above (purple rectangle) and you can try ten different art projects!
