Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plan Template
The Department has developed a RIMP template for the 2024-2025 school year to help districts and schools communicate with parents about their child’s reading difficulties, instructional supports, and plan for monitoring progress.
Districts may opt to use the template and are encouraged to modify the template to meet the needs of their students and communities. Districts are not required to use the Department-developed template.

Timeline for Completing Professional Development
- Teachers hired before April 12, 2021:
- By the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year: Grades K-1 Teachers, including special education teachers
- By Sept. 15 of the 2024-2025 school year: Grades 2-3 Teachers, including special education teachers
- By Sept. 15 of the 2025-2026 school year: Grades 4-12 Special education teachers
- Teachers hired after April 12, 2021, must complete the required professional development by the later of the aforementioned dates or two calendar years after the hiring date.

Screening Timelines for the 2024-25 School Year and Beyond
Kindergarten students: Universal (tier 1) screening must occur between the first day of January of their kindergarten year and prior to the first day of January of the following school year.
Grades 1-6: Upon parent request or teacher request with parent permission.
Transfer kindergarten students: During the school's regularly scheduled screening of the kindergarten class or within 30 days after the student's enrollment if the screening already has been completed, or within thirty days after the student's parent requests the screening or grants permission for a screening.
Transfer students in grades 1-6: Within 30 days of the student's parent requests the screening or grants permission for the screening.
Note: A district or school is not required to administer a tier one dyslexia screening measure to a student in grades K-6 who transfers into the district or school midyear if the student’s records indicate a screening was administered to the student by the district or school from which the student transferred during that year.

About this workshop:
Academic Language and Vocabulary Acquisition for Middle and High School Students
This workshop will explore the key components of academic language and its significance for adolescent literacy. Participants will learn about the critical role of of vocabulary in comprehension and identify effective strategies for teaching vocabulary.

This PD is in collaboration with NPESC Gifted Services Supervisor, Brandi Goodwin
And is, therefore, qualified professional development for classroom gifted service providers in competencies A and B.
