Online Safety
We have recently become aware of a troubling trend at our school and in our community. Some students, despite being under the age of 13, are creating Instagram pages. These accounts, often labeled "Almost Friday," are being used to post unflattering images of their classmates, accompanied by hurtful and mocking comments.
This behavior is not only hurtful and damaging to the students involved, but it also violates Instagram's age requirement policies and our school's code of conduct regarding respectful behavior both online and offline.
Online Safety and Digital Etiquette
Please be aware of your children’s online activities. Students should NEVER post an image of another individual without their permission, especially if that individual is a minor. Parents who allow their children to have social media accounts assume all responsibility for the actions of their children online. Online bullying will not be tolerated. Here are some steps you can take to help ensure your child’s online safety and foster a positive digital environment:
Check Age Restrictions
All social media platforms require users to be at least 13 years old. Ensure your child is not creating accounts on platforms for which they are not yet eligible.
Monitor Social Media Usage
Regularly check your child's social media accounts and activity. Familiarize yourself with the platforms they use and follow them on these accounts.
Discuss Digital Etiquette
Talk to your child about the importance of kindness and respect online. Explain how their actions can affect others and the consequences of cyberbullying.
Set Privacy Controls
Utilize parental control tools and privacy settings to restrict access and monitor activity on your child's devices.
Encourage Reporting
Teach your child to report any inappropriate behavior they witness online to a trusted adult, whether it occurs on their account or someone else’s.
Creating a Safe and Supportive Environment
Our goal is to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all students. Together, we can work towards creating a positive and respectful community both online and offline.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter and for your continued support.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE State of Indiana Launches SUN Bucks INDIANAPOLIS – The state of Indiana today announced that applications for the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (SEBT) program, also known as SUN Bucks, are now open. SUN Bucks is a new benefits program that provides families a one-time payment of $120 for each eligible school-aged child to help purchase groceries during the summer. This ensures that students continue to have access to healthy meals beyond the school year. The benefits will be provided to eligible families on a separate EBT card and mailed directly to their home. Benefits can be used at authorized retailers, like grocery stores and farmers markets, to purchase healthy foods, such as fruits, vegetables, meats and other protein sources, whole grains and dairy. These benefits are available in addition to free meals that children of all ages can get at SUN Meals sites in their communities. Most eligible families will receive these benefits automatically and local schools will communicate eligibility to parents and families. Some parents will need to apply.
