Drug Take Back is October 26th
Did you know the most common drugs misused by teens & adults come from family & friends’ home medicine cabinets? 75% of opioid misuse starts with using medication that wasn’t prescribed for them. Safely disposing of unwanted & expired medication using a take-back program or event protects loved ones & keeps medicines out of the wrong hands.
(Source: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration)
Did you know medications not disposed of properly end up in our waterways? Let’s work together to keep these substances away from youth and out of our waterways.

Red Ribbon Week
Once again Unite! Washougal, in partnership with the City of Washougal, will demonstrate support for a drug free community by tying red ribbons on the lampposts down Main Street and Plant the Promise of Red Tulips.
History:
The National Red Ribbon Campaign began after drug traffickers in Mexico tortured and brutally murdered Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena in March 1985. Red Ribbon Week is officially celebrated nationally from October 23-31; however, communities and school districts nationwide hold events throughout the month.
The Red Ribbon Campaign is dedicated to helping to preserve Special Agent Camarena's memory and further the cause for which he gave his life – the fight against the violence of drug crime and the misery of addiction. By gathering together in special events and wearing red ribbons during the last week in October, Americans from all walks of life demonstrate their opposition to drugs (dea.gov).
Ways to get involved: Support Red Ribbon Week activities in your child's school.
Participate in Red Ribbon Community Day - See details below.
What to bring:
- Yourselves - friends and family
- Garden tools for prepping and planting
