Our Learning Community...
What an incredible Fall Festival we had! A huge THANK YOU goes out to our wonderful PTA for organizing such a fantastic event. So much work goes on behind the scenes to have an event like this and somehow our PTA finds the time and energy to make it happen for all of us. Your hard work, creativity, and dedication truly made it a memorable evening for everyone!
We are so grateful to the many volunteers who generously gave their time to help set up, decorate, and manage activities and sales – you are the heart of these special events! Thank you to all of the families that participated in the Trunk or Treat, your cars looked amazing! It is always a highlight of the event. We also could not do it without those that donated candy and other special items; your contributions helped make everything that much more fun for our students.
And of course, thank you to all the families who joined us! It was a joy to see everyone come together, sharing smiles, laughter, and community spirit. We are so lucky to have each of you as part of our school community.
This week we will have a costume parade the morning of Halloween. Families are welcome to come watch! Classrooms will make a large rectangle around the blacktop and walk the perimeter as they parade for students and families. Check out the flyer below for all the details! And make sure not to be late or else you might miss it!
Reminder...
Monthly Counseling Update
October is National Bullying Prevention Month!
During this month, Jones Elementary School is focusing on educating students about bullying and empowering them to be allies and upstanders. Bullying is the repeated, intentional harm or intimidation by one student or group of students toward another. This behavior can be physical, verbal, or online, and it happens when there's an imbalance of power between the person doing the bullying and the person being bullied. An ally is someone who stands up for others and helps to create a positive and inclusive environment. An upstander is someone who witnesses bullying and takes action to help stop it in a safe way.
Bullying can have a significant negative impact on a child's academics, emotional, and social well-being. That is why it is so important that our school community including staff, students, and families collaborate to create a safe and supportive learning environment for EVERY student. In addition to learning about the different types of bullying, students have also been learning about the importance of empathy and compassion. We want our students to understand that everyone deserves to feel safe and respected, regardless of our diverse backgrounds. We encourage you to talk to your child about bullying and to support them in becoming an ally or upstander. If you have any questions about bullying or would like to learn more about our school's bullying prevention efforts, check out the link to our counseling webpage below.
This month our counselor is also launching Tea Time: The Everyone Alliance, open to 2nd - 5th graders. Tea Time will focus on celebrating diversity and creating a safe and affirming space for students. Every other Friday Ms. Vu will open her classroom up to those interested during recess/lunch time for students to eat together with music, activities, and socializing.
Dine Out & Make A Difference...
Have you been to Boujiemana down the road off Aero Drive? Boujiemana has a unique Dine to Donate program. Each month, 3% of Boujiemana’s proceeds from the restaurant are donated to a local charity or non-profit organization, ensuring that every meal served contributes to the betterment of our community.
Boujiemana has partnered with organizations like The Honor Foundation, which supports veterans transitioning to civilian life and The Animal Pad an all-breed non-profit Dog Rescue Organization based here in San Diego. For the month of October, Jones Elementary is one of the four schools Boujiemana is giving back to!
If you’re looking for a great dining experience in the neighborhood that also allows you to make a difference, check out Boujiemana! Thank you to Boujiemana for investing in the community and partnering with neighborhood schools this October!

Please Complete Impact Aid Survey...
We are asking every family to complete a very short questionnaire that will increase funding opportunities for San Diego Unified students.
The information is collected to support Federal Impact Aid funding and is kept confidential. Impact Aid funds are designated to assist school districts that enroll federally-connected students. This includes children of active duty uniformed services personnel, children who live on federal property or in subsidized federal housing, and children whose parents are employed on eligible federal property.
Impact Aid funds become part of the district's general operating budget and support instructional activities for all students.
At your next opportunity, we ask you to please sign-in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and complete the short survey, following the steps below:
Select Forms from the left-hand navigation menu, then select 2024-25 Impact Aid Program Survey Form under Annual Forms.
Follow the prompts and submit the form. Please be sure a confirmation appears before logging off.
If you need assistance, or do not yet have a Parent Portal account, please contact Tiffani Barthelmes in our front office by stopping by or calling 619-605-8800. Visit the SDUSD support website for more information.
For parents/guardians using the PowerSchool mobile app, you can submit the survey using the app.
We ask that you complete the Federal Impact Aid Survey by November 15th. Students will also receive a paper survey to bring home. Families may choose to complete either the electronic or paper survey.
By completing the survey, you will increase the chances of your child’s school receiving more of this valuable funding.
Thank you for your partnership.

SD United for Democracy...
San Diego Unified is dedicated to fostering a vibrant, informed, and engaged community through the power of education and dialogue. To help our students to be collaborative communicators, socially-aware agents of change, and critically-thinking digital citizens, our nonpartisan SD Unified for Democracy project offers resources to develop skills to engage in civil discourse, identify bias and credibility, debate and maintain a focus on issues, and repair harm that arises from political rhetoric.
The link below offers resources and tools adults can use to engage with and learn alongside children and teens during the election cycle and beyond.
