March 2024
As I type this letter, I cannot believe that February is behind us. This school year seems to be flying by! I hope your children have had an enjoyable school year and that you have noticed their academic progress and growth. The staff at Mentone is privileged to work with your children, as we thank you for your continued support.

Kindergarten Round-up at Mentone Elementary
Parents, I am excited about Mentone Elementary’s upcoming Kindergarten Round-up on Tuesday, March 19th at 6:00 p.m. We will have a terrific night planned for you this evening as our kindergarten team and office staff has a lot of important information to share with you about enrollment and the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. Our school is proud of the many opportunities and school experiences that we can offer our students. We look forward to seeing you and your incoming child.
Kindergarten Readiness Information Meeting
Mentone Elementary will be holding an in-person informational meeting for our Kindergarten Readiness Preschool Program on March 21, 2024 at 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Mentone Elementary School. This is our Tippecanoe Valley sponsored preschool program. Come fill out an application, visit our classrooms, talk with staff members, get your questions answered and fill out an application. We have limited spots available for students to attend our preschool program for the 2024-2025 school year. We provide preschool opportunities for students from the ages 3 to 5, students are eligible if they are 3 by August 1, 2024.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Please make sure you have been in contact with your child’s teachers regarding parent teacher conferences. Parents, you should have received information from a platform called Sign Up Genius to electronically schedule parent teacher conferences. These conferences will be held throughout the week this week (Monday-Thursday). It is my hope that by having a number of potential days to meet with your child’s teacher during the course of a week, you have a time that is convenient for your schedule. As a reminder, school will not be in session on Friday, March 15th as that will be a teacher workday.
Mentone Student Council Riley Coin Wars
Riley Coin Wars will be going on during the week of March 18th. Student Council will be collecting money for Riley Children’s Hospital. This year there we will have a competition between the grade levels. Pennies and bills add to a grade level total and nickels, dimes, and quarters subtract. The winning grade level will receive a pajama day/snow cones for their efforts.

Spring Book Fair
TVSC schools believe that every student deserves access to the highest quality books and are committed to providing the most wholesome resources possible. In pursuit of this objective, we plan to partner with a different book fair provider for our elementary and middle school buildings in the Fall. Unfortunately, we were unable to secure a March booking, so we will not be hosting a book fair during the upcoming Parent/Teacher conferences, but we will have a school-wide One Book Read event scheduled. Students will be listening to The Quiltmaker's Gift. All school libraries will have Community Quilts on display, and Redeemer Lutheran Church has kindly donated a quilt throw in each building to be given away. Additionally, Mill Creek Church's donation will allow us to give a free book to students in grades K-2. We will also be organizing a book swap for students during parent-teacher conferences in the library, where students can bring a gently used book to donate and take a "new" gently used book home with them. The library will be open during conferences. We will provide free popcorn, I Spy quilt game, and a public library table will be available with summer reading program information. We invite you to come by and join us; we would love to see you. Rest assured; we will have a book fair for students again next fall.
