Zones Cross Country - 1st Place!
To touch on a couple of notable events this week, I’d like to begin by congratulating our Zones Cross Country team, who – once again – battled hard to win the 2023 trophy. No small achievement, and a reflection of their skill, teamwork and determination. Special thanks to Karen Moore, our Sports Coordinator, and the parent helpers on the day – we really appreciate your support in making events like these possible!
MENPS Dragon Boat Festival Saturday 17th June
We are also excited to host our first ever Chinese Dragon Boat Festival this Saturday – a traditional celebration held to commemorate stories of the ancient poet Qu Yuan (typically marked by dragon boat races and eating sticky rice dumplings).
What began as an idea for a relatively modest cultural gathering to mark the occasion has grown (a little!) thanks to the enthusiasm, hard work and dedication of our PTA and members of the school community, so we hope you will have some time to come along and celebrate, have fun, enjoy amazing food, activities and performances and perhaps learn a little more about this significant cultural event.
Project Launch
The Dragon Boat Festival organisers have adapted their plans in order to negotiate temporary site fencing on the top court, where you will see digging has now progressed on a series of deep post holes.
Contrary to popular rumours that are currently circulating amongst some of our Junior children, sadly this work does not herald construction of a new school roller coaster, underground train station or even the (admittedly tantalising) prospect of a ‘giant Mr Jackson statue’.
In reality, it marks breaking ground for the new sports canopy, of course, which I’m sure will be (almost) as exciting when completed early next term.
I look forward to seeing many of you on Saturday if you are able to make it!

ATTENTION PARENTS! JAMMIES IN JUNE!
If your child goes to Mt Eden Normal Primary School (MENPS), then chances are that they will want to bring a pair of pyjamas to school to donate to children in need as part of the Jammies in June Middlemore Foundation fundraiser so that they can wear pyjamas to school on the last day of term.
However, they can't simply bring in a pair of old pyjamas to donate, the pyjamas need to be brand new, and bought specifically to donate. Important: THEY MUST BE BRAND NEW!!! IF YOU BRING OLDIE AND MOULDY JAMMIES YOUR DONATION WILL BE REJECTED!
The pyjamas must also be size 0-13 years. DON´T FORGET!!! Thank you!
Our first Dragon Boat festival is this weekend!
Please join us at the school this weekend for our festival! This wonderful event brings communities and families together, with traditional Chinese performances, activities and food. We will provide tasty traditional Chinese food, such as dumplings, fried noodles, Zongzi and also spring rolls. There will be a coffee cart, candy floss, ice blocks and drinks also sold on the site.
There will be a range of activities you and your children can participate in and enjoy, such as lion dancing, face painting, paper cutting, a bouncy castle, calligraphy, prize draws and a Chinese children traditional show.
Come and join us on the top courts & hall at our school to keep winter alive and experience Chinese culture in a fun and meaningful way!
☀️🌥️🌦️ The festival will be going ahead regardless of the weather on the day. ☀️🌥️🌦️
This Saturday - 12pm - 3pm.

Face painter coordinator needed!
Have you helped with the face painting stall before? We need help to run this stall. We have a professional face painter donating their time on the day but we need some extra hands to run the stall and for anyone with the skills, to also help with the face painting. Please email menpspta@gmail.com today!
Qualified medical help to be on call/on site during the festival
Please be our medically qualified person on site - we still have a timeslot empty for 1.30pm - 3.00pm. You would be on call if there is first aid needed that can’t be treated with a plaster etc. If you are already on site helping with a stall or coming to watch the Lion Dancing with your family then we’d appreciate having you on call during that time. Please email menpspta@gmail.com.
