Reynolds' Report
Hello, Roadrunner Families!
It's hard to believe that we are right around the corner from Spring Break! Spring is in the air, and I've been enjoying the warmer weather! Remember that we will be on Spring Break from March 25th-March 29th. We will return to school on April 1st.
As we look ahead past Spring Break, we are starting to plan for state testing for our 3rd - 5th graders. State testing can often cause stress for students, and we are working to make sure that we are including lots of fun activities during our testing weeks to shift the focus to more of a celebration of the learning we have done throughout the year, rather than thinking about it as a big scary test.
State testing will start April 30th and go through May 10th. One of the most important things you can do to help your student be successful and relaxed during state testing is to help ensure they are at school every day so they don't have to complete make-up testing. Please be sure as you plan doctors and dentist appointments, that you avoid these weeks. If you cannot avoid these days, please ensure that appointments are scheduled for after 12:00pm.
If you have thoughts and ideas for how to support students with exciting activities during testing week, feel free to share your ideas with your student's teacher! Be on the look out in upcoming weeks for opportunities to volunteer during state testing to support your student in fun and relaxing ways!
Our next Roadrunner Weekly update will be a repeat of this newsletter on March 31st, and our next new newsletter will come out April 7th.
Have a wonderful Spring Break, Roadrunners!

Topic of the Week
Topic of the Week: Anti-Bullying Series
This week, Mrs. Perez's 5th Graders presented a lesson on Gossip at our whole school assembly.
They talked about what gossip is, how to prevent gossip, and how to stop gossip if you hear it happening.
Gossip is...
...information that one person says about another person that is unkind, said when the other person isn’t there, and may or may not be true.
How can I prevent gossip?
Before you starting talking about someone else, ask yourself:
- Is what I’m saying kind?
- Is the person I’m talking about here?
- Is what I’m saying true?
- Would I want someone to say this about me?
What if I hear other people gossip?
If you overhear someone else gossiping about another person, you could say:
- “Let’s not talk about them since they aren’t here.”
- “Please don’t say that, I wouldn’t want someone to say that about me.”
- “I don’t think that’s true, they’ve always been kind to me.”
Ask your student this week what they learned from our assembly!

April 5th : College Wear Friday
As an AVID school, we work to ensure that your students are building the skills that will help them be college and career ready when they graduate from High School. We want students to have the choice to go down the path that they choose, whether that is going to college, attending a trade school, or finding the job of their dreams. As part of this preparation, we like to get students excited about colleges!
The first Friday of the month is college wear Friday. If your student has any college wear, please encourage them to wear it April 5th! If they do not have college wear, encourage them to wear their purple Roadrunner shirt, or any purple clothing to show their school spirit!
Big Fish Donors : Drive to the Marquee!
We are still looking for big donors to our PTO and Fun Run Fundraising goal of adding a digital marquee to the front of our school! The deadline to donate has been removed and we would love your support! Please click below to find a copy of a letter you can use to request donations from business owners you know in our area! Thank you for all of your support for our mighty school!

If your student currently attends First Street School on an intra-district transfer, you will need to request to have their intra-district transfer renewed each year. This process will open on January 19th. The link to submit your intra-district transfer can be found here: https://www.wpusd.org/in-our-schools/enrollment/transfers/intra-district-transfers
Students who currently attend First Street School and live in the First Street School boundaries do not need to do anything with registration. GATE students also do not need to submit an intra-district transfer as their enrollment rolls forward year over year at First Street School.

Student Quarantine:
Effective this year, California Department of Public Health has replaced most of the requirements about student quarantine with recommendations.
