2nd Marking Period Celebrations
Congratulations to all of our students for demonstrating the SR2 expectations! It shows, with 55.2% of our students earning honor roll or highest honors for the second marking period. 130 students had perfect attendance for the second marking period. We also had 84.2% of our students NEVER receive a referral for the second marking period. We will be celebrating on Friday, February 7th, with certificates and a no-referral celebration!
Thank You, School Counselors
National School Counseling Week will be celebrated Feb. 3-7, 2025, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. The 2025 theme is: School Counseling: Helping Students Thrive. National School Counseling Week, presented by ASCA--American School Counselor Association, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

Important Information
Monday, February 3rd will be an A day.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement - Many citizens are concerned about reports in the media relative to ICE Raids and want to know how their local school systems plan to handle the issue. SMCPS will adhere to the guidance provided by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Please read A Guide for Students, Families, and Local Education Agencies on the MSDE website. Our actions are bound by law, and our administrative staff consistently ensures compliance.
As a reminder during our winter season, students are not permitted to wear blankets in the building. Additionally, students cannot wear ski masks in the building. Please contact your child's Assistant Principal with any questions.
Support the EMS Theater
Support the EMS Theater by getting Chipotle for dinner on Tuesday, February 4th! This fundraiser will take place from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the Lexington Park location. Mention the EMS fundraiser when you order in person or put in the fundraiser code Z7WFVEH into the "promo code" section on your online pick-up order (fundraiser does not work with delivery).
6th Grade Dance
This dance will take place right after school for 6th-grade students ONLY; students must be picked up at 4:00 p.m. Parents do not need to come inside to pick up students. Students will be released to the parking lot at 4:00 p.m. to go home. The permission slip to attend the dance is below and available in the cafeteria starting Monday, February 3rd. The cost to attend the dance is $5.00. Students must have their $5.00 and signed permission slip during homeroom on Friday, February 7th, to get their dance wristband. No dance wristbands will be sold after homeroom, and no students can call home to get permission to attend the dance.

Career Advisor Corner - Ms. McGhee
In January, 6th graders completed their 2nd Naviance lesson, Taking Responsibility. They talked about how being responsible builds trust with others and confidence in themselves. SAIL students met Mrs. McGhee, and they completed a Career Family Tree worksheet to talk about family members’ jobs. 8th graders visited the Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center. They were able to see and learn about several different programs available to them in high school. In addition, Nurse Krum talked with some students interested in a health career during a Lunch & Learn activity.
After School Activities
All after-school activities end at 3:30 pm. Two or more late pickups will result in removal from after-school activities.

Upcoming Events
Students will have a two-hour early dismissal on Friday, February 14th.
7th Grade Dance
