Principal's Message
Greetings Generals,
We have had a great kick off to the new school year. August went by very quickly and was filled with positive learning experiences for our students. During the month of August, our students learned routines, procedures, and had a blast at our PBIS Pep Rally where we taught PBIS expectations.
Our Kindergarten-5th grade students recently took the iReady screener in reading and math. The results from this screener help us plan for our intervention/extension time, which is called "Generals Time". During this time, our teachers and support staff work with students in small groups in order to close instructional gaps and/or provide extension activities. Generals Time begins at 8:50 am daily, therefore it is very important that students arrive to school on time. Thank you for your help with this.
The district has scheduled 4 Digital Learning Days (DLD) this year. The first DLD is September 20th. Students will learn from home and our staff will be engaged in professional learning and planning lessons collaboratively with their team. Teachers will post assignments on eClass for students to complete. Prior to the first DLD, teachers will show students how to access their assignments on eClass. Please let your child's teacher know if you have any questions.
As always thank you for your continued support.
Generals Salute,
Mrs. Clowers

Attendance:
School attendance has a direct impact on achievement. A student missing just two or more days each month can be considered chronically absent. Research has proven that this can cause a decrease in reading level and other areas. Encouraging regular school attendance can also contribute to positive lifelong habits.
Helpful tips for regular attendance:
· Schedule appointments/ vacations outside of school hours or on non-school days
· Assure that your child has a regular bedtime, minimize technology before sleep.
· Develop evening routines such as laying out clothes and school materials.
· Communicate any absence causes with classroom teacher.
· Send in attendance notes when child is absent within 5 days after the student has return to school.

Student Illness
Many parents ask, “When is my child sick enough to stay home?” This is not always an easy question to answer! A child who is sick will not be able to perform well in class and learn or is likely to spread the illness to other children and staff. We suggest planning for childcare ahead of time so you will not be caught without a comforting place for your child to stay if he/she is ill.
Our school policy states that you should not send your child to school if he/she has:
- Fever – student must be fever free for 24 hours prior to returning to school without fever reducer medication.
- Vomiting – student must be vomit free for 24 hours prior to returning to school.
- Diarrhea – student must be diarrhea free for 24 hours prior to returning to school.
- Persistent cough
- Pain (ear, head stomach)
- Chills, Sore throat
- Strep throat (must have been taking an antibiotic for at least 24 hours prior to returning to school.
- Bad cold, with a very runny nose or bad cough, especially if it has kept the child awake at night.
If your child becomes ill at school, we will call you to pick him/her up from school. It is essential that your child’s teacher has a phone number where you can be contacted during the day and an emergency number in the event you cannot be reached.
Medication
Only adults may bring in medications. Students are not allowed to carry medications (prescription and/or non-prescription). All medication must be kept in the Clinic in the original container accompanied with completed medical forms. Thank you for cooperation. If you have any question, please feel free to contact the Clinic. If your student has a medical condition that requires treatment at school, please contact the clinic at (678) 344-4406 or stop by.

Important Reminders
Lunch
- Beginning September 9, parents can eat lunch with their student in the cafeteria. Please bring cash to pay for your meal. They are unable to take any type of cards.
- Birthdays can only be celebrated during lunch. Parents may bring store bought cookies, cupcakes, donuts, etc. to celebrate. We ask that you not bring cakes because it can be difficult to cut and serve. We now offer ice cream for $1 per student. You have this option as a way to celebrate your child's birthday and other students in the class. No balloons, stuffed animals, etc. please.
Transportation Changes
For the safety and security of all students, please try to keep afternoon transportation consistent. In the event that changes are needed, please do the following.
One-day change: Write a note and attach a copy of your driver' license. Request can be delivered by the student or emailed to partee.transportation@gcpsk12.org. Please call the school by 2:30 to verify that the request was received.
