📅 December 16-20, 2024 📅
🚨This is the last week of the first semester! 🚨
📢 Winter Carnival 📢
On December 20, 2024, we will host our PBIS Winter carnival during the school day! This day is designed to create a sense of community for our students and allow them to interact with their classmates and teachers in a non-traditional setting. Your student will have an array of activities to choose from. Some activities, such as the obstacle course and inflatable slides require students’ parents to sign a waiver to participate. The waiver can be signed electronically at 12-20-2024 CCSD Liability Waiver for Activity. The waiver must be signed before December 16th to ensure proper processing time. Feel free to contact Sanicqua Robinson at 843-763-1529 or Sanicqua_robinsonsm@charleston.k12.sc.us.
PARENTS D.E.N.
Our next Parents D.E.N. will be January 15th at 8am. If there is a specific topic you would like the team to discuss, please email annabel_schizas@charleston.k12.sc.us with suggestions. We look forward to seeing you all in January!

We have a limited number of CEW sweatshirts for sale in the front office for $20 each.
Wolverine Wellness
Using the stairs instead of an elevator can significantly improve your heart health and help you live longer. The recommended number of steps a person should take each day depends on their age and goals:
Adults under 60: Aim for 8,000–10,000 steps per day
Adults over 60: Aim for 6,000–8,000 steps per day
Older children and teenagers: Aim for close to 12,000 steps
Weight loss or muscle strengthening: Increase the intensity of walking
Over the next few weeks, aim to get plenty of steps in each day! Tricks that can improve your heart health include taking the stairs instead of the elevator, parking farther away and walking, getting up and moving every hour, playing outside, taking a walk after eating, etc. There are also lots of free apps that can help you track your steps!
Anti-Bullying Culture
As we continue to grow our culture of gratitude and anti-bullying, we are committed to taking all reports of bullying seriously. We cannot help if we do not know what is happening. In an ideal world, we would know every single thing that is said and done on campus at all times, however, that is just not reality. If your student is experiencing hurtful behavior or language towards them, please encourage them to speak with their teacher first, and then an administrator. We are here to work WITH you to resolve any issues.
How can you help? Monitor your students electronic devices! More than 90% of the hurtful situations we deal with at school stem from online activity that takes place outside of school. Students then escalate the situation that took place at home, when they arrive to school. Monitor your students activity, talk with them about who they are speaking with and HOW they are speaking. Remind your student that the anonymity behind a screen can cause big issues in front of it. If students have a conflict, there are lots of people who can help with conflict resolution. Together we can support our students emotional development and help them learn to regulate problem solve without escalating a situation.
Discipline Updates
As an addition to our weekly parent communication, we are including information regarding discipline infractions that are occurring at CEW South. Our goal is never to "catch kids"; our goal, in regards to discipline, is to coach, in partnership with our parents, the expectations the school and district have for student conduct. We see this addition to the weekly communication as a key tool to partner more closely with parents.
With colder weather last week we saw a lot of students who were not in dress code. While we know it can be hard to find the right outfits, please help us by making sure your student is wearing the correct clothes. Students are allowed to wear solid colored crewneck sweatshirts in black, gray, navy blue, light blue or white while wearing khaki, navy blue or black pants. If a student is wearing jeans they must wear a CEWS shirt or crewneck.
Sweatpants, joggers, hooded sweatshirts, patterned / writing on sweatshirts are not allowed. If your student does not have the appropriate sweater, they can either purchase one in the front office, OR they can trade their hooded/pattern sweatshirt for a CEWS one to wear during the day from the counseling office. Students will trade back at the end of the day.
Please help us by reminding your student what the dress code is and make sure they come prepared, in uniform, every day!

🚀Give Teachers a BOOST!🚀
Education Thrives When You Keep It Under 5!
These three weeks before winter break are vital to student success, please make sure your student is at school on time, every day! We are finishing the semester with lots of projects and fun activities, completing any missing assignments, and it's important that your student is here!
If your student is too sick to attend school (fever, repeated vomiting, etc. or excused for a medical appointment(, please make sure to send notes in to school. Notes can be dropped off in the front office, or emailed to Ms. Feldman (lynn_feldman@charleston.k12.sc.us). Any note emailed must contain a guardian signature.
Attendance is incredibly important to every students success. Each day a student misses academic instruction requires them to play "catch up" to meet their peers. Please try to have your student arrive on time, every day! If you are having challenges getting your student to school, please reach out to our School Social Worker, Ms. Steere-Williams (abigail_steerewilli@charleston.k12.sc.us) for support!
Please review the CEW South cell phone expectations with your child.
