Lake Bluff Elementary School Family Newsletter
Hello Lake Bluff Families,
Report cards are ready for viewing. Below you can find a video and step by step instructions on how to access them. Please make sure you view them so you can monitor your student's progress.
PLEASE check Lost and Found. All items will be donated after Monday, November 25. There are so many items there, we would love to reunite your student with their belongings.
I wanted to take a moment to remind you about the start and end times of the day. We have seen a significant increase in the number of students arriving to school late and getting picked up late. When students arrive late, they miss the beginning of the school day. The start of the day is an essential foundation for a successful day of learning. At the end of the day, there is no one to supervise your child if you are late. Our staff is often in meetings or have other obligations. If you need after school care, please contact Milestones at 414-964-5545 or info@milestonesprograms.org.
School Hours for 5K-6th Grade:
Start: 8:15 (tardy if not in the classroom by 8:20)
Dismissal: 3:25 M, T, TH, F and 2:25 on W
We have also seen an increase of students forgetting their belongings (instruments, lunches, snacks...). Please take time to check in with your child that they have everything they need for the day prior to leaving for school. While we are happy to get to your child their delivered items, it is often disruptive to the classroom and their learning.
Next week is Indigenous People's Week and we do not have school November 27-29. During this break would be a great time to learn about Native Culture. It is also a good time to reflect on the things we are grateful for. I am grateful to be working with your students, tremendous staff and an exceptionally supportive community. Thank you for giving me all these wonderful opportunities.
Kind Regards,
Johanna French, Interim Principal
Thank You to the Shorewood Foundation for Supporting Peace Workshops
Thank you to the Shorewood Foundation for funding part of a wonderful learning opportunity for our 5th grade students. These students had (or will have) the incredible opportunity to participate in Peacemakers’ Workshops through the Milwaukee Peace Learning Center. These engaging day-long workshops focus on building essential skills such as communication, conflict resolution, and empathy through cooperative games, role play, and group activities. In addition to the full-day workshop, facilitators will be coming to Lake Bluff for 3 booster sessions where students can continue to practice the skills learned at the workshop.
So far, two of our 5th-grade classrooms have participated, and we look forward to taking the MAC 3 5th graders soon. This experience aligns with our commitment to fostering a respectful and inclusive school community.
We are grateful to the Shorewood Foundation for supporting this valuable opportunity! To learn more about the foundation, visit https://www.shorewoodfoundation.org/.
Meet our Staff
Every week we will try to showcase some important people that you may not know who contribute to the success of Lake Bluff.
Kelly Mjos
Ms. Mjos works for Milestones and supports our students during lunch and recess. Ms. Mjos hold a BS in Environmental Sciences and recently relocated to Wisconsin from Connecticut. When asked why she works for Milestones, her face lit up and she said "because I love children". That sentiment certainly shows during her interactions with our students.
Ms. Mjos's Fun Fact: Ms. Mjos's favorite food is New York style pizza but she hasn't found any here in Milwaukee. If you know of a place, please let her know as we don't want to deprive her of her favorite food.
