Mission Statement
St. John Lutheran School exists to nurture children in faith and intellect, equipping them for Christian lives of service.
"Be kind and compassionate to one another,
forgiving each other, just as God in Christ has forgiven us."
Ephesians 4:32
Spiritwear Store Open
Our spiritwear store through ArtRageous Apparel is now open! Shop St. John spiritwear here through November 3. All orders placed will be available for pick-up in the office at a later date.
After school drawing class started last week, but you can still sign-up here if you are interested. Classes are Thursdays after school until 4:20 p.m.
Event Photos
If you have any pictures from sporting events or extracurricular activities for our school, please send them to Brooke Behl, our yearbook coordinator. She is looking to gather a stockpile of photos to put in the yearbook at the end of the school year. Please email them to her at brooke.behl@stjohnslib.com
Safe Child Program
Are you hoping to volunteer for Spirit Days or chaperone a field trip? Parents and care-givers who will be working directly with students (Field Trip chaperones, Spirit Day volunteers, ...) will need to first apply (and be approved) through our Safe Child Program. Stop by the office after drop-off or before pick-up time to get an application for working with St. John youth. You may have already gotten this application from your child's teacher on one of our registration nights. Once completed, the application can be turned in to the school office.
If you have already gone through our Safe Child Program and would like to renew your status for this year please let Mrs. Schubert know, and she will get you the renewal forms.
Mrs. Schubert Out of Town
On Friday, October 11, and Monday, October 14, Mrs. Schubert will be in Minnesota visiting her family. Please make sure to reach out directly to your classroom teacher if your student(s) will be tardy or absent. Mr. Tim Kalter will be sitting at Mrs. Schubert's desk both Friday and Monday so you may still call the office, but email (with the office) will be very limited. In case of an emergency on those days please reach out directly to Mr. Retzlaff: (224) 206-0008 or david.retzlaff@stjohnslib.com.
Bible Talk
Do you have -
- questions about the Bible (“What does that mean?”)?
- questions about life (“How can the Bible help me?”)?
- a thirst for knowledge or peace?
- a love for God and his Word that wants to grow?
Join us for Bible Talk - an informal discussion on the Bible - Thursday mornings at 8:30 in our Fellowship Hall. We are hoping that this time of the day will work well with the morning schedules of our school parents. If that is true for you, please stop in and join us!
Are you interested? Unsure about joining us? Have questions? Talk with Principal Retzlaff, Tim Kalter, or Pastor Raddatz.
Cross Country
Perhaps you are one of the many who have seen our cross country team members practice and wondered why any student would sacrifice two recesses every week just to race laps. Watching our runners at the meets would answer that question for you. Our team of runners has been awesome this fall!
At Faith in Antioch last Friday, our team brought home six medals with at least one medal in every category (grade level and boys / girls.)
- Lia Zahnen - 1st place, girls grades 7-8
- Marshal Weaver - 1st place, boys grades 4-6
- Michael Thies - 1st place, boys grades 7-8
- Jaydon Francis - 2nd place, boys grades 4-6
- Caleb Cisneros - 3rd place, boys grades 7-8
- Naomi Andal - 2nd place, girls grades 4-6
Congratulations to all of our runners!
The last two meets of the year are:
- Tuesday, October 15, a fun run race, 3:30 - 4:00 p.m., here at St. John, Libertyville. Fans are welcome to watch all our cross country runners.
- Wednesday, October 23, at Lincoln Park, Kenosha. This meet is for grades 5-8 only.
Trunk-or-Treat
We currently have 6 trunks signed up for the Trunk or Treat event. In order to make the parking lot look full and inviting, we strive for at least 12 trunks. If you haven't yet signed up to host a trunk for this year's event or if you have any questions, please call or text (847-275-6222) Paul Massey or email him at paul.massey@stjohnslib.com.
When: Sunday, October 27, 2024, 2-4 p.m.
Where: St. John Parking Lot
PPP Opportunities
School Daze Props
Ms. Behl is looking for someone or a few people to make props for the school musical School Daze on November 21. We would need the props a few weeks before the musical so we can practice with them. Please email her at brooke.behl@stjohnslib.com. This can be a solo project or a team effort.
Help wanted: someone to help keep our playgrounds neat and tidy.
Tasks would include:
- Raking mulch on the large playground (skunks and other animals are constantly digging it up and creating holes)
- Picking up garbage left by others who use our space
- Making sure rocks are staying by the gaga ball pit
- Sweeping/pushing woodchips into place on the smaller playground
- Any other tasks as needed to ensure our playgrounds are safe and suitable for our students to use
Once or twice a week would be a good frequency for this. It would be on your own time. At the end of the year, you can report your hours for PPP credit. If you'd like to take on this role, please let Mr. Wintrone (justin.wintrone@stjohnslib.com) know.
School Directory
We will be making School Directories available this month. The office needs any recent changes to your contact information. Before the school year started, you turned in registration paperwork. Included was a form where you checked "yes" or "no" about being listed in a school directory. If you have changed your mind about being included or not included, let Mrs. Schubert know.
Please email any changes to office@stjohnslib.com by Friday, October 11. School directories will be going home with the youngest child in the family on Friday, October 18. Families who chose to not be listed in the school directory will not receive a directory.
Sunday School at St. John
After 9 a.m. church, come downstairs for snacks, refreshments, and fellowship, and then from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. join us for Family Bible Hour! Children in grades prek-3 through 8th grade are invited to come learn and grow in God's Word together.
This week in Sunday School, we will study God’s covenant with Abram in “A Sign and a Promise.” God reassures Abram of His promise to bless the earth through Abram’s offspring. God changes his name from Abram (“exalted father”) to Abraham (“father of many nations”) and institutes circumcision as the sign of His continued covenant with Abraham. Despite Abraham and Sarah’s advanced age, God promises they will have a son of their own.
