Scholastic Book Fair
The in-school Book Fair is running from March 3-7, with after-school sales on Wednesday and Thursday, March 5 and 6 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm, and before-school sales on Friday, March 7 from 8:00 - 8:40am (during Bagel Friday).
Students will be previewing and shopping at the Book Fair during time slots picked by their teachers. As always, all purchases benefit our school.
Volunteers needed! We have lots of volunteer opportunities available for set-up, helping the kids with their books, sales and clean up. Sign up to help here:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4FA9AB29ABFFC16-54439041-2025
Support our teachers!! Help build our teachers' classroom libraries by contributing to their eWallets. Teachers can shop at the Book Fair and pay for their new books with money donated to their eWallets. Links to our teachers’ eWallets coming soon!
Don't want your child bringing cash with them to school? EWallets are a safe and secure way to shop the fair.
Once you set up your eWallet (go to https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/kingspring2025 and click on the eWallet “Get Started” button), share your eWallet with friends and family. They can contribute money to the eWallet, which students can use to shop for whatever they’d like. After the Book Fair ends, any remaining eWallet funds are moved to a Gift Card balance.
Parents, you can also shop our Book Fair online from March 3- 16, at this link: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/kingspring2025.
As with our other Book Fairs in the Spring, we will also have a bunch of used books that we will be offering to students to take home for free! We are already busy collecting donations from the community, so if you have books that you're ready to let go of, there are two donation spots - one outside the front door of King, and one by the back door / entrance to the MPR.
For more information regarding the Spring Book Fair, see our Frequently Asked Questions.
Thank you!

Morning Arrivals/Afternoon Pick Up - Please Read!
As the weather has gotten colder, we have noticed an increase in children arriving to school via the car drop off/pick up line. In order to keep our students, staff, and community safe, we ask the following:
-Do not block the crosswalks on Waldenwood Drive.
-Do not stop to drop off or pick up students on the west (neighborhood) side of Waldenwood Drive. Please use the drop off/pick up line.
-Use slow speeds when driving, particularly when staff are directing traffic and children are traveling by foot.
Please see the attached map for clarity. We appreciate your collaboration with the King community as we travel to/from school!
Martin Luther King Jr. Celebrations at King
At King Elementary, we are excited to come together as a school community to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a week full of meaningful activities that honor his legacy. Instead of a traditional school assembly, we will explore different aspects of Dr. King's life, work, and values throughout the week, giving students a chance to engage in hands-on projects that reflect his teachings.
MLK Week Schedule:
1/20: Monday – MLK Day of Remembrance - No School
1/21: Tuesday – Students will create a paper chain of kindness, sharing acts of kindness that reflect Dr. King’s values of equality, justice, and unity.
1/22: Wednesday – Students will write letters to community helpers and heroes, expressing appreciation for their service, in alignment with Dr. King’s commitment to service.
1/23: Thursday – In response to Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, students will create and share their own dreams for the future, illustrating how dreams can inspire positive change.
1/24: Friday – To honor Dr. King’s belief in the power of peaceful protests, we will hold our own Peace March at King Elementary. Upper-grade students will create signs with quotes and messages promoting peace and change.
We can’t wait to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy together as a whole school!

Silent Auction - Save the Date!
Save the Date! The PTO is prepping for our King Silent Auction and we want you to be there.
What is the Silent Auction?
The Silent Auction is an annual PTO fundraiser to benefit King Elementary students, teachers, and staff. All proceeds go to the PTO to support things like school supplies, field trips, teacher grants, classroom resources, enrichment activities, and more. What is special about the Silent Auction, though, is that many of the “items” auctioned are experiences. These events stemming from the Silent Auction are amazing community-building experiences that deepen our connection to one another and foster belonging and inclusion among our King neighbors. We hope you participate in any way you can!
Please mark your calendars for Friday, April 11th 2025 from 5:30pm - 8:00pm.

King Elementary Attendance Procedures
- Any changes in your child's attendance - including early departures or vacations - should be sent to their classroom teacher and <kingattendance@aaps.k12.mi.us>. The attendance is received by office staff. The sooner they know that your child is safe, the better! If possible, please let them know by 9:00am.
- Early departures can only happen before 3:20. After that, it is too close to our official dismissal time to get children to their parents safely. If possible, please let their classroom teacher and <kingattendance@aaps.k12.mi.us> know by 9:00am (or earlier!).
- Monitor your child closely for illnesses and have them rest at home when they are sick. Office staff cover the nurse's office for 20+ hours a week in addition to other duties. Please find this helpful guide for keeping children home: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lF_GpVuZvLjbLParqW5rmS8pmE9NHYOU/view?usp=sharing
Arrival/Dismissal Plans
Arrival to school will be between 8:38 am and 8:45 am. Students will enter the building at 8:38 am. You may drop your student(s) off no earlier than 8:38 am to line up at the entrance for their grade level. After 8:45 am students will be considered tardy. Tardy students must enter through the front door by ringing the door bell.
Driveline - Parents, please do not exit your vehicle to help your child exit or enter the vehicle. Staff members will support your chid, if needed. Children should have all of their belongings in close proximity as they prepare to exit the vehicle.
Our dismissal process will begin at 3:40 pm. Students will exit through their grade level doors. KingCare students will be dismissed first, followed by bus riders, followed by walker and bicycle riders, finally by students being picked up by car (Driveline).
Before the start of each school day, please make certain that your child knows their dismissal plan for the day. Last minute changes can be confusing to children and disruptive to their day. If changes occur throughout the day, please alert the office and your child's teacher via email before noon. The office can be reached at kingattendance@aaps.k12.mi.us.
Please view the map for the location that your child/children will enter and exit the building here:
