Dear Colin Powell Academy Families,

Happy New Year! I hope your winter break was filled with joy, rest, and special moments with loved ones. As we step into 2025 together, we’re excited to see our students return with fresh energy and enthusiasm for the second half of the school year.


As we settle back into our school routines, I want to take a moment to remind everyone of some key procedures to ensure a safe and focused school day:


Cell Phones and Headphones:

  • Cell phones must remain put away during the school day (K-5) and placed in Yondr pouches (6-8).
  • Headphones should not be worn in hallways and are to be used only as part of instructional activities.


Winter Wear and Lost & Found:
  • Please ensure new jackets, hats, tumblers, or other items are labeled with your child’s name and grade to help them find their way back if misplaced.

Prohibited Items:
  • Wheel sneakers and Crocs are not allowed for safety reasons.
  • While we love seeing student's style, fabulous new hoodies that do not align with our dress code are not permitted. Crewneck sweaters and/or cardigans are permitted.

We appreciate your continued support in reinforcing these expectations to create a safe and focused learning environment for all. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Winter Break Week Of Fun!

Event Information

Fall Picture ReTake Day

Parents of the students participating on Retake Day should be aware of the following:

  • If a student was absent on the initial picture day, their name will appear on the unphotographed list so that you are aware that they need to have their picture taken for the yearbook.
  • If a parent has expressed interest in having their child’s picture retaken, this can also be done on retake day. The student should bring the original photo package, including original envelope and all picture products, to turn into the photographer when they come to sit for a new picture. They do not need to fill out a new order form.
  • Students must be in uniform for fall picture retake day.

TAG Center Lottery Application Window - Dec. 16, 2024 - March 14, 2025 - apply here. Students must be identified through the PGCPS TAG Screening process to be eligible for placement in a TAG Center. Parents/Guardians may apply during the screening process.
