OLVCS Summer Updates #3
August 1, 2024
Dear OLVCS Families,
Wow! We are into August, well just barely. When my children were young I remember August being a time of contradictions. They were starting to get bored, but also trying to squeeze more into their days. They would be ready for the routine of school, and also lament shopping for supplies. In those moments I would pause and take each day as it comes; or at least try. The last days of summer are precious and few. I hope you soak them in.
Updates and e-announcements may come more frequently with the start of the year approaching. Please know that we will try to keep as much information in the Updates so not to fill your inbox, however, sometimes multiple emails in a week are necessary.
It is also the time of year when teachers look for and find new jobs for a variety of reasons. OLVCS is no different than any school across PA in this matter, it's just the nature of the profession. With that said, we say goodbye and send blessings to Dr. Merovich and Ms. Ohmoto. Dr. Merovich is moving to Bishop Guilfoyle and Ms Ohmoto, just down the street to St Joseph's Catholic Academy. We are sad to see them go, but also excited for their new adventures. We are looking to fill these two positions. Letters of interest and resumes can be sent to me.
If your 7th or 8th grader is interested in joining our PIAA Co-Ed Soccer or Girls Volleyball teams, see information below.
Finally, even though it is just the beginning of August, we have two events next week.
- August 6th: Heart Screening: Who We Play For! 8:00 - 4:00 (details below)
- August 8th: Used Uniform Sale: 4:30 - 6:30 (details below)

Make your August a great one!

Message from Nurse Whitehill about the Heart Screening
OLVCS is hosting a Heart Screening event, (details below) the following is a message from Nurse Whitehill. Also below is information on the Spirit Wear Store. Please email Terry Stec stect@olvcs.org if you would like removed from this distribution list.
Hello and Happy Summer from your School Nurse!
I am thrilled to announce that Our Lady of Victory Catholic School will be hosting an event to screen for a leading cause of preventable death in children (Sudden Cardiac Arrest caused by Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy).
We will be holding the event on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 8am-4pm in the Activities Center.
The screening itself will take approx. 15 minutes (this includes a 5-minute EKG, plus anticipated time for instructions and administrative duties). It is open to all students ages 10 and up, and we encourage all to participate.
We will be partnering with the non-profit Who We Play For, whose goal it is to "eliminate preventable sudden cardiac death in the young, through access to affordable heart screenings and working with communities to honor every kid who never had a chance".
The cost for this potentially life saving EKG screening is $20. Please make checks payable to OLVCS. (Please contact Samantha Weakland if you need financial assistance).
An EKG is not a requirement and is not included in a sports or school physical. Because of this, we at OLVCS aim to do our part by hosting this event to make this potentially life-saving screening available to The Reasons we are all here--our students.
Thank you so much for helping us help your children and our students! Hope to see you there!
Blessings to you,
Olivia Whitehill, RN, BSN (OLV School Nurse)

2024 OLVCS Walk-A-Thon
- Summer is a great time to start fundraising!
- Here are some fun and creative fundraising ideas that both you and your children can participate in over the summer:
- Lemonade Stand: Set up a lemonade stand in your neighborhood. It's a classic summer activity that’s also a great way to raise money
- Bake Sale: Organize a bake sale with homemade goodies.
- Car Wash: Gather a few OLVCS friends and offer a car wash service. This is a fun, hands-on way to raise funds.
- Yard Sale: Clean out your closets and hold a yard sale. It’s a great way to declutter and raise money at the same time.
- Dog Walking or Pet Sitting: Offer dog walking or pet sitting services to neighbors and friends.
- Chores for Donations: Offer to do chores around the house or for neighbors in exchange for donations.
- Family and Relatives: Summer travel is a perfect opportunity to see relatives and ask them for donations. Alternatively, use the summer to send handwritten letters to relatives asking for their support.
- Share your fundraising efforts on social media and tag our school’s Facebook and Instagram pages. Seeing everyone's creativity and enthusiasm will inspire our entire community and bring us closer together as we work towards our goal!
- Every little bit helps, and remember, your summer fundraising efforts will count toward students’ eligibility for individual, family, and class prizes!
- Donations can be made online at www.olvcatholicschool.org/walkathon or collected in your family envelope that were sent home this week.
- Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our school community.
- We look forward to seeing everyone’s fundraising efforts come to life over the summer!
