Better World Week begins April 28! Our school is supporting Asheville Middle School as they work to restore the river front that was damaged from Hurricane Helene. Our students will begin to create flyers, digital tools, yard signs, etc to publicize our support.

We will also be creating a pollinator garden here at Buckhorn Creek to mimic some of the work Asheville Middle is doing. A link to help purchase these items will be share next week.

Wednesday, April 16, we are inviting all of our families in for our Learning Celebration, Art Festival, and Chorus Concert.

The Learning Celebration will feature student learning from Quarter 3 and will be open from 5-7pm.

The Art Festival is held in the Media Center and showcase student art work. Please stop in to view this high quality pieces anytime between 5-7pm.

Our Chorus Concert will begin at 6pm with an opening show from students at Holly Spring High School. Our chorus will take the stage immediately following. '

We look forward to seeing everyone!

End of Grade (EOG) Testing for 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade must occur in the last 10 days of school as directed by state law. We are asking for all families to note June 2nd - June 13th on their calendar for EOG testing.

We have not identified exact dates yet for each grade level. However, having students here on the date of testing to reduce the number of make-up tests is essential. Please mark your calendar and plan accordingly.

We are continuing to focus on attendance. Students that are at school every day in April will be invited to join a dance party!

Our current attendance rate is 93.8% - our goal is to shift this to 95%

Tardies are excessive! And frankly they delay the start of learning every morning. Please make adjustments to be on time!!!

This week, our school will focus on the character strength of Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence. This means noticing and valuing the world's beauty and people's skills and not taking things for granted.

Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence involves recognizing and enjoying what is admirable. Positive psychology identifies three types of goodness: physical beauty (like sunsets or music), exceptional skills or talents, and moral goodness (like character strengths). Appreciating beauty can inspire awe, skills can generate admiration, and moral goodness can elevate us. These feelings help us forget ourselves and find more joy and meaning in the world.

This strength helps individuals experience positive emotions and connect with the world around them. It is outward-facing, focusing on external beauty and excellence, often leading to deep absorption in awe or admiration, which can help alleviate anxieties. It is also linked to other strengths, such as gratitude, curiosity, love of learning, and purpose.

To practice and encourage this strength at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Our PTA has worked with a vender to ensure this link is open ALL YEAR!

Please only select ONE time period per family. This allows two families an option each day to have lunch with their children.

We are excited to offer the opportunity for parents and visitors to have lunch with students once again. However, in order to ensure safety, manage space limitations, and to ensure the process is successful we must maintain guidelines and expectations for logistics.
