Volunteers make our school a great place to learn and work. We are currently looking for parent volunteers to join us - our most urgent need is for a volunteer in the Media Center on Wednesdays from 10-10:45AM. What we are learning this month
6th GRADE
Math - Students are learning about statistical reasoning and how to interpret bar graphs. Use these links for an activity on bar graphs: Reading a Bar Graph, Bar Graphs Samples (en Español).
ELA - Students are working on literary analysis by identifying literary elements - tone & mood, theme, plot, figurative language, point of view, descriptive details, sensory language, etc. ( in different types of literature such as poetry and short stories).
Science - Students are starting the space unit and learning about comets, asteroids, meteors and the different kinds of galaxies and eventually planets.
Social Studies - Students have started the year by reviewing map skills. They will begin the European Unit soon with the geography of Europe.
7th GRADE
Math - Students are learning about Rational Numbers (positive and negative integers, fractions, and decimals). Use the Tipple Rolling (en Español) activity to practice Rational Numbers at home.
ELA - Students are working on informational writing. The overall theme is building success from failures.
Science - Students will be learning how to classify organisms for the next five weeks.
Social Studies - Students will be completing a review of map skills, governments, and economic systems. Students will then jump into the geography unit on South West Asia (Middle East).
8th GRADE
Math - Students are working on simplifying expressions, solving multi-step equations, solving equations with variables on both sides, solving equations with special solutions, solving inequalities and literal equations. These linked activities can help your student practice these concepts at home:

ELA - Students will be working on our narrative writing unit including reviews of all narrative elements (plot diagram, characters, setting, theme, point of view, etc.)
Science - Students will be learning how to identify chemical and physical properties of matter. They will also be observing changes in matter and constructing an argument on whether the change is a chemical or physical change.
Social Studies - Students are learning about Georgia’s five geographic regions and physical features. Students are also analyzing how water impacted the growth and economy of Georgia.
