FCPS Connect
Thursday, May 9
Starting next week, it will be my great honor to congratulate the FCPS Class of 2024 at commencement ceremonies.
I am so proud of our graduates who are ready to be successful in college, in the workforce or serving in our Armed Forces.
A significant percentage of our graduates have completed Advanced Placement courses, and 60 percent of the Class of 2024 took advantage of Dual Enrollment courses in conjunction with Frederick Community College. Dual Enrollment courses allow students to earn college credit before they graduate from high school.
Last week, we celebrated 26 seniors who have signed on with 21 local businesses as part of our FCPS Career Signing Day.
Our seniors have worked hard, and our traditional graduation ceremonies will be a proper sendoff.
Yesterday, we shared information about our Class of 2024 ceremonies. Please review it, especially if you plan on attending graduations or watching from home.
Starting today, our Office of Public Affairs will begin sharing graduation spotlights via our FCPS All-Stars blog. Each graduate featured had a unique path to graduation, and I think you’ll enjoy learning more about them. You may even see a familiar face or two!
Enjoy the rest of your week!

Catoctin and Sabillasville Environmental named Maryland Green Schools
Catoctin High and Sabillasville Environmental School are the two latest FCPS communities added to the Maryland Green Schools program!
Both schools were newly certified in the Maryland Green Schools Program for 2023-24 by the Maryland Association for Environmental & Outdoor Education (MAEOE). Urbana High also successfully recertified as a Maryland Green School. Renewals take place every four years.
This brings the number of Maryland Green Schools to seven, along with:
- Frederick High
- Myersville Elementary
- Oakdale High
- Wolfsville Elementary
In Maryland, 654 schools are part of the Green School program, representing 34 percent of all Maryland schools.
MAEOE will host the 25th annual Maryland Green Schools Youth Summit May 30 at Sandy Point State Park on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. Green Schools are invited to participate.
