Oak Hills Newsletter
Week of December 16, 2024
Message from Ms. Do
Dear Oak Hills Families,
This week is the last school week of 2024! It's been an incredible school year so far; we are so grateful to welcome your children to school every day and embrace their brilliant minds, curiosity, and kindness. Thank you for your partnership and enthusiasm to make our community strong.
We wish all our students and families a restful winter break. Enjoy the beautiful and joyful moments with family and friends. We look forward to welcoming students back in 2025! School resumes on Monday, January 6th.
Happy Holidays!
Sincerely,
Ms. Do
P.S. Please review the district message about the Bond 2022 construction updates to Oak Hills. It is all very exciting! We will be working together as a staff to prepare for construction, review school map proposals and ideas, and plan for the changes that will take place during the 2025-2026 school year. Please reach out if you have questions. In partnership with the Bond project team and the BSD Communications Department, we will share updates throughout 2025.
Message from District: Classroom Addition and Covered Play Update
We want to update you on the additional classrooms and covered play area projects at Oak Hills, part of the 2022 Bond. The contract has been signed, and permits are being reviewed by Washington County.
The additions will provide students and staff with four new classrooms, additional restrooms and a collaboration space attached to the north portion of the building. The added classrooms means that we won’t need the portables anymore. The portables will be vacated in two phases, the first during Summer 2025 and the second in the Spring of 2026. All the portables will be removed by the summer of 2026. The space beneath the portables will become more field area.
The new covered play area to the west of the existing covered play area will provide students with four basketball hoops. To maintain visibility to the field, the new covered play structure will be open on all sides.Additionally, we're widening the path on the south side of the field and adjusting some grading to address drainage issues. The sidewalks along both street frontages will be widened, as well.
As a part of the school modernization project, we'll refresh and reconfigure the library during the summer of 2025. We'll connect the two sides of the library into one contiguous “L” shaped space. Opening the side walls of the existing AV classroom will provide the desired library connection. We will build a new AV classroom adjacent to the library.
Construction preparations will begin over spring break and start in earnest in May (pending permit approvals). The grass area between NW 153rd and the north side of the existing school building will be used for construction material staging and contractor access. The northeast community gate will be closed for the duration of the project. The playground will remain open during the school year.
Due to all the various construction activities and the need to maintain safety, the entire site including field and playground will be closed this summer. When the new school year starts in August, the new library space and covered play will be ready for use; the addition construction zone will continue to be fenced off until construction completion in winter 2025-2026.
Thank you for your understanding and patience during this improvement project.
