31a and Count Day
- Your 31a funding is directly tied to your economically disadvantaged count. The biggest way you can directly impact this is with your F/R priced meals counts. Many districts have moved to community eligibility or are otherwise giving free meals during COVID. Make sure you are still getting as many students identified as possible to maximize your funding. The Household Information Form is a streamlined way to accomplish this.
- Students must be marked "At Risk" (3060 in MSDS) for two count periods in order to be considered for accountability purposes. Don't wait for the end of the year to mark all your students - they would only make it in for one count.
- I suggest collecting service data from all your 31a funded staff at each count period as well. You'll need this to complete the APFR in July. Don't wait 'till July to try to collect all the data - you will have a hard time connecting with everyone!
Some bonus 31a resources:
- 31a Legislative Summary - There were some changes to 31a this year. This gives a high level overview of those changes.
- Identification and Service Categories - Identification categories are the same this year, but there have been some changes to services.

Sec 98b Progress Reports
Re-Post from January Issue: Districts are required to provide a progress report on building goals to the board (at February board meeting) and to upload those progress reports to the district transparency webpage. A few notes about this:
- Districts do not have to submit the progress reports to MDE.
- Here is an optional progress report template that meets all the requirements of the law. While districts can choose to use a different progress report format, this one was created in collaboration with MDE and MAISA/GELN.
