Rhode Island College would like to invite your high school students to a special interactive discussion: “Gen Z Rising: The New Era of Political Power and Activism." Secretary of State Gregg Amore will offer opening remarks for the event followed by an interactive panel discussion. Our co-moderators will be Arnie Arneson, a student favorite, a community activist, and the first woman to run for governor in the state of New Hampshire. She will be joined by Suzy Alba, A RIC alum, former President of the Smithfield Town Council and Director of Civic Education in the RI Secretary of State's office. We have invited two students from the Georgia Youth Justice Coalition and will invite high school and college student leaders to offer their perspectives. Also on stage will be our special guests, a bi-partisan pair of former members of Congress, Valdez (Val) Deming and Dennis Ross as part of our Congress to Campus program at RIC. RIC has been part of this prestigious program on several occasions and, as part of our programming, we have made a commitment to also reach high school students in our quest for greater student engagement. We'll also host another special guest--to be named later--as we're just finalizing arrangements. In addition, we'll have several youth action groups on hand to talk with students before and after the program about how to best channel their political participation.

Students Please Drive Safe!
Recently the School District and Police Department has received complaints from parents, guardians, and community members. They have alleged high school students are driving in an unsafe manner on campus during arrival and dismissal periods. They have also alleged students are driving at high rates of speed on the roadways that surround the school. These concerns are being taken seriously.
To ensure that all students are driving safely, the school admin and SRO Parenti will be monitoring arrival and dismissal in the coming days. Additionally, the Scituate Police Department will be conducting radar speed enforcement. The Police Department will enforce speed zones with ticketing. Students observed driving in an unsafe manner could have their parking privileges revoked.
Please do your part to keep our school safe.

Seniors!!
Attention Seniors and Parents/Guardians:
A reminder to start preparing for your next steps. Here's what you need to do:
FSA ID – If you haven’t already, make sure you create your FSA ID now. You’ll need this ID to complete your FAFSA and access federal student aid. Students and their contributors will need to complete the FSA ID. Learn more about contributors here.
FAFSA – The FAFSA opens on December 1, but don’t wait until the last minute! Get your FSA ID set up and gather the necessary documents so you're ready to apply as soon as it opens.
Don’t miss this important step for financial aid! Without an FSA ID, you won’t be able to complete your FAFSA, and without the FAFSA, you won’t be eligible for any federal grants or loans. You never know what you might qualify for! Having choices is key! For any questions, reach out to your school counselor or visit the College Planning Center for assistance.
College Corner!
The Early Action/Early Decision deadline is approaching.
Common Application and SAT scores (if submitting) should be submitted prior to November 1st.
Transcripts will automatically be sent to your colleges by your school counselor.
No need to request! If you need a copy of your transcript for SAAR or GPA/Rank info, see Mrs. Erickson.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you invite your school counselor to your Common application immediately, if you have not already done so. Mrs. Lennon and Mrs. Trainor cannot upload transcripts or recommendation letters if they are not invited to do so.

Important Dates and Deadlines
- Spring 2025 semester: January 13 – May 16 with varied dates
- Pre-lottery registration runs through December 6, 2024.
- School approval deadline is December 9 at 12pm. Students with pending approvals after this deadline has passed will not be included in the course lotteries.
- Spring 2025 course lotteries run on December 10. Students are notified by email same day with a seat offer or waitlist number for each course they preregistered for.
- Seat offer deadline: Students have until January 2 at 11:59pm to accept or decline their seat offers before they expire. A course with an expired seat offer will not be available to them in their EnrollRI dashboards if they try to re-register post-lottery.
- Open enrollment runs from January 3 through the last day of the add drop period for each course. Courses with seat availability will be filled on a first come first serve basis as students register and move up the waitlist. Prompt approvals will help ensure a student secures a seat in a preregistered course during open enrollment.
ACN Team School Visits

Scituate Alumni Association Tip of the Week
My Tip: Enjoy every experience you have whether it be in High School or College. Life is too short for drama, and if they're toxic, move on from them. Never be afraid to be unapologetically yourself because the right people will stay or come back and the wrong people will go and you'll know their true character. Be around people that love you for you!
