Welcome to the Oakwood Orchestra! We are so excited that your child has chosen to take beginning orchestra next year. There are a few things that need to happen so that your child is ready for orchestra. The most important being....choose an instrument!

String Drive is our major event to get each family ready for beginning orchestra. Tuesday, May 5th from 4 pm to 9 pm the CSISD orchestra staff will be hosting informational meetings, an instrument petting zoo (so that students can try out the instruments again), and instrument sizing.

We would also like to invite you to the A&M Consolidated High School Orchestra's Spring Concert on Thursday, April 30th. You can attend an informational meeting, hear some great music, and students will get to experience their first orchestra concert from the stage! (If you attend the information session on April 30th, you can skip that step at the String Drive on May 5th.)

Start: Informational Meeting (Band Hall)

Ms. Read (Oakwood Orchestra) will walk you through the String Drive and the important events and information for the first year of orchestra. At the end of the meeting, Ms. Read and several current orchestra parents will be available to answer questions. Please click the button below to reserve a spot at one of the meetings!

Then: Petting Zoo (Cafeteria)

AMCHS orchestra students will be helping students try out the violin, viola, cello, and/or bass. This is a last chance for students to try the instruments before deciding what they want to play.

Then: Choose an Instrument (Cafeteria)

Once students decide what they want to play, they need to meet with either Mr. Duston (AMCMS Director) or Ms. McCormick (AMCHS Director). Each instrument comes in multiple sizes and the directors will measure each student to determine which size they need. At this stage, student will get the chance to sign a poster for their instrument so all their friends can see what they chose!

Finally: Visit with Vendors (Orchestra Room)

The last stop is in the orchestra room. Various vendors will be there to talk to you about rental programs and show off their wares.
