The Writing Revolution

The Writing Revolution (TWR) is a full K-12 program that works to develop student writing skills. The skills presented are best utilized when implemented at the early grades and then continued throughout a student’s educational career; however, the text is filled with strategies that can be used in your classroom as early as today.

TWR believes that sentences are the building blocks of all writing. When embedded in the content of the curriculum, writing is a powerful teaching tool. Both Natalie Wexler and Judith Hochman (the authors of TWR) stress how writing is not just a skill used in English class. Writing is an excellent tool for teachers of all grades and subjects to check for comprehension and ensure that students are engaging with material being taught in the classroom.

1. Go to Moodle and create an account or sign into an existing account.

2. Search: The Writing Revolution course

3. Use password: TWR2021

4. Utilize the given dates to plan your reading and watch the IDOE modules OR go through the course at your own pace

5. Contribute to each module by developing your own examples for your content and grade level

6. Upon completion of the book study, you will complete a feedback form to receive Professional Growth Points (PGPs)

IDOE staff will offer feedback and comment on created examples.

Upon completing this book study, you will have the knowledge to implement TWR strategies in every class with all students.

You will also have five modules full of examples created by Indiana educators for Indiana students. These are meant for you to pull into your classroom instruction!
