Hello Pershing Families,
Our ONE BOOK ONE SCHOOL adventure will come to an end this week but with a fun-filled night of Edward Tulane worthy activities! We hope you enjoyed the book and even more, enjoyed time spent reading as a family! We look forward to seeing lots of you at our OBOS Event happening Wednesday night at 6:30pm.
Has your child been able to share any of the Black History Month Honorees they have learned about so far? You can ask them about Jason Reynolds, Ruby Bridges, George Washington-Carver, Bessie Coleman, and the man I just learned about myself, George Speck aka George Crum. He's definitely got an interesting story that helped him get that special last name!
This Friday our students will be celebrating VALENTINE'S DAY from 2:00-3:00. Please do NOT send food with your students. The parties we have are to be social, play games, and enjoy our friends. It's no fun for our staff to have to police food coming in and out, so please help us by not sending it. I understand that candy is kind of a staple for class parties. Please know that if candy is brought, it will be passed out at the very end of the day and students will be told to take it home and not eat it at school.

Hola familias de Pershing,
Nuestra aventura de UN LIBRO UNA ESCUELA llegará a su fin esta semana, ¡pero con una noche llena de diversión con actividades dignas de Edward Tulane! Esperamos que hayan disfrutado del libro y, aún más, que hayan disfrutado del tiempo que pasaron leyendo en familia. Esperamos ver a muchos de ustedes en nuestro evento OBOS que se realizará el miércoles por la noche a las 6:30 p. m.
¿Su hijo ha podido compartir alguno de los homenajeados del Mes de la Historia Negra que ha conocido hasta ahora? Puede preguntarles sobre Jason Reynolds, Ruby Bridges, George Washington-Carver, Bessie Coleman y el hombre sobre el que acabo de enterarme, George Speck, también conocido como George Crum. ¡Definitivamente tiene una historia interesante que lo ayudó a obtener ese apellido especial!
Este viernes, nuestros estudiantes celebrarán el DÍA DE SAN VALENTÍN de 2:00 a 3:00 p. m. NO envíe comida con sus estudiantes. Las fiestas que tenemos son para socializar, jugar y disfrutar de nuestros amigos. No es divertido para nuestro personal tener que controlar la entrada y salida de alimentos, así que ayúdenos a no enviarlos. Entiendo que los dulces son un elemento básico en las fiestas de clase. Tenga en cuenta que si se traen dulces, se repartirán al final del día y se les indicará a los estudiantes que se los lleven a casa y no los coman en la escuela.

Exciting news for Pershing families! Starting in March, you will have a chance to take part in the The Latino Family Literacy Project. This is a program for parents who speak English, Spanish, or both and who want to expand and strengthen their literacy skills in either language. In this program, parents will also discover reading foundations like learning how to establish a reading routine. You will learn how to share stories with your children, talk with your kids, and build vocabulary. This will be most beneficial for parents who have younger children (kinder/first grade) or are newcomers. If this is something that interests you, please join us! It will be on Wednesdays after school at Pershing from 3:15-4:45 for about ten weeks. (Childcare for Pershing Panther students will be provided.) ¡Buenas noticias para las familias de Pershing! A partir de marzo, tendrán la oportunidad de participar en el Proyecto de Alfabetización Familiar Latina. Se trata de un programa para padres que hablan inglés, español o ambos y que quieren ampliar y reforzar sus habilidades de alfabetización en cualquiera de los dos idiomas. En este programa, los padres también descubrirán fundamentos de la lectura, como aprender a establecer una rutina de lectura. Aprenderán a compartir historias con sus hijos, a hablar con ellos y a ampliar su vocabulario. Esto será de gran ayuda para los padres que tienen hijos pequeños (de kínder/primer grado) o que son recién llegados al país. Si esto es algo que le interesa, ¡únase a nosotros! Será los miércoles después de la escuela en Pershing de 3:15 a 4:45 durante unas diez semanas. (Se ofrecerá cuidado de niños para los estudiantes de Pershing).
