Headteacher's Welcome
Dear Parents and Carers
KS2 Carol Service
The KS2 Carol Service will take place at St Mark’s Church, next door to school, on the 18th December at 2.30pm. It should last approximately one hour. Apologies, that we could not have a later time but this is due to availability in the church; they have both morning and late afternoon bookings. St Mary’s College is also finished up for the term and so were not able to offer the Chapel as an alternative venue. If you wish to attend as a family, younger children can be collected from school but we are also happy to look after the younger children until the end of the service. Year 5 will be leading the service and each KS2 class will be singing as will the choir. It is always a beautiful occasion and a lovely start to Christmas celebrations. Hopefully, next year we will be back in Sacred Heart Church.
Flu vaccinations
The nurses came today to deliver the flu nasal vaccinations. They have informed us that they will be running a catch-up session locally should your child have missed out for whatever reason. They will let us know the date and time and we shall communicate this to you.
We enter a busy period now with lots of fun activities planned each week by school and the PTA. There is a wreath making evening on Wednesday 27th, the Christmas Fair on Saturday 30th 3 - 6pm and on Thursday 28th at 5.30pm you are welcome to join us singing Christmas Carols outside ‘Shambles’ in Teddington during the Christmas Lights Up evening.
We have a mufti day on Thursday 28th – Bring a bottle.
There is a book fair in the school hall on Tuesday 25th November and Wednesday 26th November after school. Please pop along if you can.
Elleray Hall Christmas Lunch and Advent Charities
Sacred Heart Church and our school are helping with the organisation of the Christmas Lunch at Elleray Hall this year. It is for the elderly in the community who are on their own for Christmas. There are about 70 people to cater for this year. The church are looking for volunteers to help before or during the event. Year 5, as part of their Caritas Ambassador’s work, have taken on helping with elements of the project and will be asking the school community to help with an aspect of this; the rest they will organise in lessons. We will await their guidance on what they need help with.
We will be supporting a number of charities/Christmas initiatives this Advent. These include Elleray Hall Christmas Lunch, Shooting Star Trust and Cafod World Gifts. We will align this fundraising to the various special events happening at school during Advent.
Anti-Bullying Week, World Kindness Day Poppy and Poetry Workshop
We had a super Anti-Bullying Week focusing on ‘Choose Respect’ with World Kindness Day last week. There are plenty of photos of the children participating in all the activities. The Poetry and Poppy Worship on Friday was a huge success.
School Lunches
Please encourage your child to eat a hot lunch at school. Once they try the food on offer, they usually like it. The lunches are fresh and flavoursome. Everything is cooked from scratch with a salad bar and a range of healthy desserts on offer each day. Please try new foods at home with your children; this is helpful to develop the children’s palates. Eating the free meals provided at school equates to around a saving of £500 per family, per child.
Highlights of the Week
Nursery enjoy visiting the library for story time and choosing a book to take home.
Year 1 & 2 had an amazing time exploring WW1 through drama and poetry.
During other Faith's week, Year 2 learnt about Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest. The children really enjoyed working as a class to make Challah Bread.

Year 5/6 Girls Football Tournament
On Wednesday the girls football team went to a football tournament.
We played six matches, three in the morning and three in the afternoon. Unfortunately we didn't make it to the semi-finals because we only scored one goal, however we had lots of good attempts. We played against St James', Deer Park, Chase Bridge, Archdeacon, Trafalgar and St James' again.
Despite the fact we didn't get to the semi-finals, we would all like to do it again.
Poppy and Poetry Workshop
Our school recently hosted a special visit from West End in Schools for a Poppy and Poetry workshop. This enriching experience allowed the children to explore poetry as a means of building empathy and understanding life during the First World War.
The children fully immersed themselves in the workshop by reciting lines with clear intonation and expressing their responses through drama. It was a meaningful opportunity for them to connect with history in a creative and interactive way.
Netball vs Collis
On Friday the 8th November, we played a Netball match against Collis.
We won 6-5, we really enjoyed it and had a great time. We were glad we won but they were a great competitors. In High Five we have to switch positions every quarter so it keep us on our toes.
We were delighted with our win over such a big school. We might be small but we are talented.

EasyFundraising
EasyFundraising – many more retailers now donating to schools all year around
As we approach Christmas and we are shopping for groceries and gifts, why not let the retailers give a little something extra to Sacred Heart School in the way of funds. These donations from retailers to school soon mount up and proceeds are used for the benefit of the children. Perhaps grandparents, aunts and uncles could also sign up to Sacred Heart School as well. Once linked up on a device, you will be prompted, when shopping, if that particular retailer is part of the EasyFundraising scheme and a click of button means they make a donation to school. Thank you for your help with this.

Faith in Action
The children have been learning the Our Father in French this month.
Amen.

Changes to the Volunteer Police Cadets (VPC) programme
Ahead of the new school year starting, we are writing to inform you of changes to the Volunteer Police
Cadets (VPC) programme, run by the Metropolitan Police Service.
The Met is committed to continuing to support the Cadet scheme, recognising how it contributes to
building trust with young people, supports recruitment and diversion, as well as having a positive
impact in communities through crime prevention and other police initiatives. There are currently 32
cadet groups across London and the scheme currently supports 4,100 cadets from the age of 8 to 18.
Changes to the scheme will see us retain all 32 groups, but instead our revised scheme will now run
for 13 to 17 year olds.
