Family Reading Night- Tonight!
We’re excited to invite you to Aspen’s annual Family Reading Night which will take place on tonight between 5:30-6:30 in the MPR. As always we will have exciting guests that will be reading from books of their selection. There will be cookies and popcorn, raffle and several interesting vendors. As always, the kids can dress in pajamas and bring blankets and pillows so that everybody can get cozy and comfortable during the reading.
This year we will hold our Book Exchange event as part of our Family Reading Night again. We hope that every child can go home with a new book to read and enjoy! If you wish to participate in the exchange, please bring between 1-3 used children’s books (per child) that your child would like to exchange. Any leftover books will be donated to the Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library non-profit organization.
Roadrunner Run
Please join us on March 15th for our third annual Roadrunner Run!
Our biggest fundraiser of the year has a theme of "Walking on Sunshine", and we can’t wait to share all the amazing opportunities our Roadrunners will have in the upcoming weeks, culminating with a friendly fun run all in the name of raising money for PFA that will benefit our teachers and students
Below is the schedule for class running times! Save it so you know when to come cheer on your Roadrunner! Please find registration information below. The first two classes to reach 100% registration will receive an additional recess!

2023-2024 Opt-In Communication for Advisory Council/Committee Updates
In CVUSD, parent/guardian engagement and participation is a top priority! Participation is encouraged through many organizations and activities. Several CVUSD Advisory Councils/Committees that support parent/guardian participation are listed in the link below, with the OPTION for you to select any or all to receive communications from the school’s identified parent/guardian representative and/or from school site administration. This communication would provide information and updates to you related to the Advisory Council/Committee meetings. Please select the Council(s)/Committee(s) that you would like to receive information and updates on, approximately monthly. If you have students at multiple school sites, please submit the form for each school. Additionally, if you opted-in last year, please plan to do so annually. Importantly, should you choose to opt-in to receiving these updates, the parent/guardian representative for the Advisory Council(s)/Committees(s) and/or the administration will not share your email address with others. You also have the ability to opt-out at any time in the event you no longer wish to receive the Advisory Council/Committee information.
If you would like to learn more about these Advisory Councils/Committees, or other ways to get involved at CVUSD, please go to: https://www.conejousd.org/domain/1365

Aspen Elementary School Science Fair
It’s that time of year again! Time to get ready for the Annual Aspen Elementary Science Fair! Students will have the opportunity to complete a science project, which will be displayed at a school-wide event on Wednesday, April 17th from 5-7pm in the MPR.
Students can complete the project independently or with a group. All work is to be done outside of school and each individual/group will be required to complete a trifold presentation board, which will be on display for the event.
Students wishing to participate in the Science Fair must submit a Project Proposal by March 15th to the office or their teacher. These will be sent home next week. Those interested students will be given a Student Preparation Guide, which contains all the important information that will help students complete their projects. Final projects are due on the night of the Science Fair and students will report to the Aspen MPR between 4-5 pm to check-in and set up their display.
Do you have older children in middle school or high school? Students may volunteer for community service to help with the Science Fair setup, organization and cleanup. An announcement will be made approximately one month before the event regarding volunteers needed.
If you are interested in helping me prepare/run the Science Fair this year, or if you have any questions or concerns, please email me at jasmine.nottingham@gmail.com. Thank you and please encourage your child to participate in this year’s Aspen Science Fair.
