John F. Kennedy High School
Principal Update - December 2, 2024
From The Principal Intern...
Dear Cavalier Teachers, Students, Parents and Families
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving break filled with rest and quality time with your loved ones. As we return to school, we are gearing up for the next three weeks leading up to our winter break! This is an important time for us to focus on consistency, progress, and making the most of the opportunities ahead.
I am thrilled to step into the role of acting principal for the next three weeks as I complete my internship practicum while Ms. Adamson is away at Pyle Middle School. It is an honor to lead our amazing community during this time, and I am dedicated to fostering a positive, productive, and supportive environment for our students and staff. We are also excited to welcome Dr. Sundra Mann back to the Kennedy Administrative Team, who will join us in providing additional support during this period. Together, we will navigate this busy time of year with a shared focus on growth, collaboration, and ensuring everyone feels supported and valued.
Over the next few weeks, I encourage everyone to stay engaged and connected. For our students, this is a time to focus on achieving your goals, seeking help when needed, and celebrating the progress you’ve made so far. For our staff and families, your continued partnership and dedication make a difference in creating the kind of school community we can all be proud of.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our school community. I look forward to working together to make these next three weeks productive, joyful, and rewarding for everyone.
Warm regards,
DeyJah Chappell
Principal Intern

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS
MYP - Middle Years Programme
Last Monday, students enrolled in the MYP/IB Personal Projects participated in the November Workshop. We worked on crafting criteria for success and connecting MYP/IB approaches to learning (ATL) skills to our projects. We worked in teams to put two criteria for success in action with a team competition. Congrats to the winning team (and all the teams that surpassed our original testing location!) Students updated their report in Canvas with these additional sections. We took some time to reflect on how procrastination can sometimes impact us and brainstormed ways to work consistently towards our goals. We will not meet again as a whole group until February 28, 2025, which will be our last workshop. In the meantime, students will have their second mentor meeting in December during their mentor's selected lunch and learn time. By February 28th, students should have completed their action plan, 15+ hours towards their project, and kept documentation of their progress. Students can make appointments with Ms. Radebe for additional support.
Field Trip!
Students participating in ThinkBig will have their second Strathmore Field Trip on December 6th (periods 2-7).
Ms. Radebe will send out email reminders and information to those participating.
