Mylan Park Elementary Newsletter
December 2024
Principal's Message
The success of our students has been through a collaboration of parents, teachers and students working together. Our students being active participants in their learning is imperative to their academic success.
As December begins, our thoughts now turn to ways of celebrating the season together as a school community.
🌲Our "Wish Tree at Mylan Park" located outside of the front office will be decorated with student wishes for our school, community and world. This project stems from the book titled, Wish Tree by Katherine Applegate, that we read as a school each holiday season. Be sure to take a peek as you enter our building and add your own wish.
❄️🎵We invite you to join us on December 19th at 10am to watch our second and third grade students along with choir perform in our "Shine Your Light" musical showcase in the gym. If you can't join us in person, sit back with a cup of hot chocolate and watch our performance on our Live Stream link under "Families" on our website or at bit.ly/MPESLIVE at 10am.
🚂On December 20th we invite our students to wear their PJ's to school to celebrate the season with our school-wide Polar Express Day! Don't forget on the 20th we also have a 2 hour early dismissal.
📞📱Are you not receiving weekly calls/texts/emails? These calls include weekly reminders and school delays and cancellations. Please fill out this form if you need to update your information.
We would like to wish all our Mylan Park families a safe and happy holiday season! Winter break begins December 23rd with classes resuming on Monday, January 6th. Even though the holidays can be busy, please take the time to read with your child everyday.
Have a wonderful and safe break. We will see you in 2025!

Unplugged Coding in the Innovation Lab
Macy's Parade at The Park
The Hour of CODE returns to The Park for it's 8th Year!
What is the Hour of Code?
The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science.
When is the Hour of Code?
The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. The 2024 Computer Science Education Week will be December 9th-13th, with the Mylan Park's School-Wide Hour of Code on December 12th. Computer Science Education Week is held annually in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (December 9, 1906).
We are excited to offer various computer science activities throughout the week of December 9th in honor of Computer Science Education Week. Be sure to check out the Related Arts e-calendar for CS Activities and daily lessons for students!
Why computer science?
We take pride at Mylan Park that every student has the opportunity to learn computer science in their classroom and in our Innovation Lab. Computer Science helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. We like to say at Mylan Park that "Patriots love to Code!"
