Pets
With the beautiful fall weather, we have noticed that some families are embracing the opportunity to walk their pets to and from school. As we strive to maintain a safe environment for all our students, we kindly ask for your cooperation regarding pets on school grounds during drop-off and pick-up times.
While we understand the joy and companionship pets bring to families, we must prioritize the safety of our children. If you choose to bring your pets, please ensure they are kept under your control on a leash and are off the playground behind the fence. Additionally, we kindly request that you discourage children from petting the animals, as this presents a liability concern for the pet owner. Your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines will greatly contribute to the well-being of our students. Thank you for your understanding and support in keeping our school community safe.
Orange Shirt Day - September 27th
Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community intergenerational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. The orange shirt symbolizes the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations. It grew out of Phyllis Webstad's story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the St. Joseph Mission residential school. It has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually.
Our division will recognize Orange Shirt Day on Friday, September 27th, 2024.
If you would like to purchase an Orange shirt for your child please log into your PowerSchool account, go to School Fees & Forms, and fill out the electronic form.
All Orders are due by noon on Sept 13th, 2024.
School Council News
As your School Council Chair, I want to welcome you all back to the wonderful world of routine and cool Fall weather. With the start of a new school year also comes the requirement to form a School Council. We are looking forward to welcoming back experienced members and brand new ones. But, what is the School Council (SC) and what do they do? Keep reading for some brief information about SC and what we do. Please also join us for some upcoming information sessions (see the school's upcoming events list). Finally, anyone is always welcome to contact me at eolrschoolcouncilchair@gmail.com to chat more.
Why join School Council?
Did you know that research overwhelmingly supports that when parents are involved in their children's education there is: increased scholastic achievement, better attendance, higher grad rates, and increased overall student happiness? The research is so strong that section 55 in the Alberta Education Act mandates the formation of a school council in all schools. It also outlines our purpose and role.
What is School Council?
Our role is to create multiple and value opportunities for increased parental involvement and community engagement. It is also a forum where parents are able to provide their input and advice on student learning and success.
Who is School Council?
Members of School Council are the parents, principal, teacher representatives, and other community members. In other words, you!
What does School Council do?
We advise the principal and board respecting any matter relating to the school. We consult with the principal so that the principal may ensure the students in the school have the opportunities to meet the standards of education set by the Minister, as well as ensure the fiscal management of the school.
Our meeting topics may include:
Current events such as new curriculum, cell phone use in schools, classroom sizes and complexities, etc. We also discuss the school mission and vision statements, policies, annual plans, reports and their results, the school budget, and results from provincial assessments.
Please consider joining your School Council. Your input into our children's learning and our school community is invaluable!
