Headteacher's Message
Message from Mr O'Shannessy
This week the children and staff of St Peter’s and St Gildas’ surpassed themselves in making the second week of Advent a time of preparation but also celebration. Our theme this Advent has been around the change we can make for others. We may be a small school, but we are definitely having a big impact.
I would like to thank all the parents, carers, children and staff for their donations to the Caritas Advent food bank collection. We have had to start boxing up donations as they are taking over the hall. Next week, children from our school will take the donations to the food bank, which will undoubtedly have a positive impact on people less fortunate than ourselves this Christmas.
On Monday we lit the second candle on our Advent wreath, The Bethlehem Candle. This candle reminds us of the faith of Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem; a faith that we have seen in school this week in both words and actions.
Tuesday was one of the most exciting days in school that I have had in 35 years of teaching. To have the Mayor of Haringey come to visit our school was a moment of pride. To have a visit from Santa Claus, Mrs Claus and an Elf called Jingle was unbelievable. But to be able to see and pet reindeer, sheep and a miniature horse, was out of this world. A huge thank you to Mr and Mrs Ktorakis, who were instrumental in organising the day.
Just when I thought the week could not get any better, we were treated to the most wonderful Christmas Nativity performance by the whole school- “The Littlest Christmas Tree.” The singing and acting was of West End quality and the message of Christmas was delivered to everyone in the audience with clarity and care. Congratulations to all the children on your performance. Thank you to all the staff for all your hard work behind the scenes and finally thank you to all the parents who were able to attend the performance; your support is greatly appreciated by both the children and the staff.
Thursday the school hosted a wonderful Christmas Jumper day to raise much needed funds for “Save the Children”. Again, yet another event where we are putting our faith into action. The kitchen staff need to be congratulated on producing a wonderful Christmas dinner that was enjoyed by all. I would also like to thank the staff who gave up their lunch time break to ensure the Christmas meal was a whole school celebration.
Finally, I will thank you in advance for the support at the Christmas Fair. The newly elected Committee of The Friends of St Peter’s and St Gildas’ have worked hard to ensure this event could take place and bring our whole school community together to celebrate. The funds raised from the event will go directly to the school to support our children.
Next Wednesday, school will be attending the Parish Church for the final mass of the term. All parents and carers are invited to join us for this very special celebration when we will light the third candle on the wreath, known as The Shepherd’s Candle-the candle of Joy.
After the last week, I could not be prouder of the children, staff, and whole school community. It is a privilege to be the Headteacher at such a unique and special school.
Thank you for your continued support.
