November 4, 2024
Dear Families,
This week is our annual Pleasant View Fall Food Drive from Monday, November 4th through Friday, November 8th. Please see the below video from our Panther Pride Team for more information!
As we approach Parent Teacher Conferences, one common question we get is around what families can do at home to support their child and their learning. Below are a few specific pointers that can easily be done at home.
Read Together: Set aside time to read with your child every day. It can be a fun, shared activity that strengthens their reading skills and builds a love for reading and allows you to talk about what you read.
Be a Reading Role Model: Let your child see you reading. Whether it’s a book or magazine, showing that you value reading will encourage them to value it too.
Make Math Fun: Incorporate math into daily activities, like cooking (measuring ingredients) or shopping (counting items or calculating totals). Games that involve math, such as puzzles, Yahtzee, or card games, are also a great way to make learning enjoyable.
Practice Problem-Solving: Encourage your child to tackle problems step by step and talk through their thinking. Ask questions like, “How did you solve that?” or “Can you find another way to do it?” This can be applied to not just math, but daily tasks and chores within the household. Problem solving is a critical life skill and we can model our thinking for kids and give them ample opportunity to practice.
Vocabulary - Students enter K5 with on average 4000 base vocabulary words. They will learn 800-1000 new word meanings per year through 6th grade, however from 3rd grade on, they will encounter 2000-3000 words a year. Reading and discussing words in books is a great start, use rich language in discussions with your child, talk about the different words used to describe the same thing…it all helps!
Praise Their Efforts!
Your involvement makes a big difference in your child's learning journey. Together, we can nurture their love for learning and support their success!

The Franklin High School Child Development II students will be sponsoring “Saber Pre-school” for children ages 3 to 5 on various days in December.
Saber Pre-school is designed for children ages 3 to 5 who are toilet trained and ready to experience a supportive and enriching pre-school environment. The Saber Pre-school program offers a truly excellent experience for both our big and small students.
Class time will be from 9:00 to 10:15 am and tuition is $20 to cover the cost of materials and snacks for the entire 3 weeks. FHS FALL PLAY: “ALMOST, MAINE” 11/14-11/17
The FHS Fall Play is fast approaching with shows taking place Thurs 11/14 through Sun 11/17. For tickets and show information, please visit the Saber Center website here.
Show Description: Welcome to Almost, Maine, a place that’s so far north, it’s almost not in the United States. It’s almost in Canada. And it’s not quite a town, because its residents never got around to getting organized. So it almost doesn’t exist. One cold, clear, winter night, as the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, the residents of Almost, Maine, find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend—almost—in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.
