NISD Magnet High School Connection with Middle School Students
What is a magnet high school? What opportunities will my child have to learn about magnet high schools in Northside? How and when might students and families visit a magnet high school they are interested in attending? The information in this newsletter will address these questions, as well as direct you towards resources the district has provided to enhance understanding of the magnet high school programs of study and application process.
Magnet High School Visits to Middle School Campuses
Middle School Classroom Learning and Discussion
Throughout the 2nd Grading Period, students in MAPS, AVID 1, and Innovative Thinkers 3 will learn about foundational high school concepts like grade point average (GPA), high school credits, and endorsements.
On Tuesday, October 15th, teachers will provide students with access to HS Magnet Ads (promotional videos) and suggested in-class activities. Students will watch the HS Magnet Ads, explore the magnet schools’ websites, and collect information that helps them better understand each magnet campus. Additionally, students will interact with in-class activities that emulate various strands offered at the HS Magnets.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. shuttle service will run between Hobby Middle School and Rudder Middle School to the Northside Sports Gym. An additional shuttle will also run from Zachry Middle School to the Northside Sports Gym.

Paul Taylor Field House/Northside Activity Center
Beginning at 5:30 p.m. shuttle service will run between Ross Middle School and Neff Middle School to the Paul Taylor Field House, between Rayburn Middle School and Jones Middle School to the Paul Taylor Field House, and from Pease Middle School directly to the Paul Taylor Field House.
An additional shuttle will run from the Paul Taylor Field House stadium parking lot to the front of the Northside Activity Center for families who need that service.

NISD Magnet High School Application Timeline
MAPS, AVID 1, and Innovative Thinkers 3 teachers will guide students through the magnet high school application process, allowing class time for students to apply to their school(s) of choice, should they choose to do so.
For students to be considered for acceptance at one of the NISD magnet high schools, they must fill out the magnet high school online application. Here are some important dates in the application process.
