Hello Levelland Lobos!
Steve Jobs once said, "The only way to do great work is to love what you do." There are so many amazing examples below of the love that Levelland ISD has for our students and the community. The pride in our district is on full display every day! The next two months will be busy and there will be numerous student events to attend. We hope you are able to join us in celebrating our Lobos.
Have a great week and enjoy!
Becky McCutchen, Superintendent of Schools

Lobo Excellence Award
Levelland ISD #expectsexcellence and honored two more businesses that support our district and students last week with the Lobo Excellence Award! We visited and gave out our Lobo Excellence Awards to the Hockley County NewsPress and The Wallace for supporting the district, teachers, and students! This award is one way for us to give back for the community connections made during the school year and beyond. We are proud to have two more honorees!
Levelland Destination Imagination teams traveled to Arlington to compete in the Lone Star State Finals over the weekend. LMS improv team Know 1 One (coached by Joshua Randol) placed 6th and will advance to Globals in Kansas City, Missouri on May 22nd-25th. The South Louis Vuitton Hotdogs (a technical challenge team, coached by Alexis Gaviña) and Capitol Lightbulb Disasters (an improv team, coached by Pam Alexander and Barbara Utley) improved their scores from regionals but did not advance. LMS Rocket Rockstars (coached by volunteer Cindy Niederhauser) also went to State and competed well in the scientific challenge. Our students had a fabulous time at the Lone Star State Finals and even enjoyed their time at the Urban Air Adventure Park and the Abilene Zoo. The coaches and parents are thankful that LISD has given these students all of these experiences and memories of a lifetime. Congratulations to Know 1 One! We can't wait to see how you fare at Globals! https://files.gabbart.com/455/copy_of_lone_star_finals24_1.mp4
OAP
Our LHS Theater Department performed "Shipwrecked" by Donald Margulies under the direction of Ashley Peikert in the LHS Theater for the public last week. The theater students took this adventurous story on to the One Act Play District Competition. The audiences witnessed the adventurous Louis de Rougemont in his story of bravery & survival. People were whisked away in a story of the high seas, populated by exotic islanders that examined how far we’re willing to blur the line between fact and fiction in order to leave our mark on the world.
SPC Digi Festival
Our LHS students in Mr. Hill, Mr. Lawson, & Ms. Buckner's classes participated in the SPC iDigi Graphic Design Festival Competition before the break and brought home 17 medals and three $500 scholarships! We are so thankful to South Plains College for the connection and partnership with them that offers extra opportunities for our LHS students. This digital arts competition allowed students to show off their best work in the graphic/photography world while testing their skills and logic. They enjoyed learning in all the engaging activities and liked seeing a few LHS alumni while there! Congratulations to these kids and thank you, SPC!

South Music Program!
South Elementary Fourth Graders performed a music program earlier today, showing off a few of the things they've learned in music this year. Students played the Ocarinas, sang several songs about friendship, & showed off their drumming skills! A lot is going on in Music at South! Thank you to Music Director Mrs. Jennifer Turner and Mrs. Juana Soliz for pushing kids to learn more and more often! .
Lobo Band Success!
LHS Band Director Michael Cason sends congratulations to the Levelland HS Winter Guard for placing 3rd at the Sweetwater Winter Guard Festival! He says, "I am super proud of their performance." Way to go ladies!
SPORTS
Signing for Scholarships!
LHS had a great week last week with two of our favorite athletes signing to play at the next level. Senior Ryan Jeanneret and Eryk Jones both signed today to accept scholarships and test their athleticism. Eryk Jones signed to play football close by at West Texas A&M in nearby Canyon, but Ryan Jeanneret signed to run for Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. Our LHS coaches bragged on both guys, reiterating what we already knew about both of them. These boys are both leaders on the field and at LHS. They both also do well in the classroom with keeping their grades up! Ryan is in NHS & YELL while volunteering for community service and doing work in the classroom. Eryk also does well in the classroom and will be playing in the ASCO All-Star Game in Lubbock this summer. We are proud of both of our boys! Great job guys!
Golf News!
LHS is proud to share that our Varsity Boys Golf Team placed third in District play. Brenden Lawless placed 4th overall after the 2nd playoff hole and he qualified for Regionals by shooting a 2 day total of 143. Our Girls Varsity Golf Team placed second at District and are heading to Regionals. Aubrey Morin placed 2nd overall with a 2 day total of 176. Regionals will be the middle of April in Lubbock and we wish our Athletes the best of luck moving forward!
Zaden honored on Academic All-State Elite Team!
LHS Powerlifting Coach Mike Brogden #expectsexcellence and sends out congratulations to Zaden Carrillo for being named to the Texas High School Powerlifting Association's Academic All-State Elite Team! To earn this outstanding honor Zaden had to keep a GPA of 92 or above, be of good moral character, and have represented his school in a manner that is worthy of this honor. He has done all these things and competed on the field and courts all year long, so we are excited Zaden's hard work paid off!
LMS Boys Golf
Our LMS Boys Golf Team competed in their first middle school Golf tournament in Sweetwater over the weekend. Cody Grissom earned an Individual 9th Place Award. Congratulations to Cody and these young golfers! We will be watching to see how you grow!
Extra Innings Team of the Week!
Coach Adrian Holland and Pete Christy share that our Levelland Loboettes Softball Team is the Extra Innings Team of the Week! Levelland knocked off Lake View & Estacado to move to 22-3-1. Head Coach Adrian Holland & the Levelland Softball Team were in the KCBD Studios on Sunday and were featured on KCBD too. How exciting! Congratulations ladies and Coach Holland!
