Dear Parents,

The annual LCPS Family Survey was recently emailed on February 24, 2025. Waxpool will use the results of this survey to determine what we are doing well and the steps we need to take to meet the needs of our students. Questions ask for your perceptions of communications between the school and families, academic support provided to your child, safety, and relationships with administrators and teachers.

Surveys will be emailed from the LCPS Research Office to family members for each child with a due date of March 21, 2025. You will receive one email for each child you have enrolled in LCPS.

This is a very important survey for Waxpool. When completing this survey, my hope is that you look at our school with a wide lens, rather than letting one experience or recent bad day consume your mind. We strive to problem-solve and work together with our school community. For those of you that have communicated with us, I know you can attest to this. For those who may have a need or want to bring a matter to our attention, please know we are always here! Our results should be posted publicly sometime during the fourth quarter. This is our time to shine!

Attendance Matters

How Absences Impact Your Student:

Student absences lead to missed instructional time and it adds up (Attendance Matters Graphic).
This missed instruction impacts student performance and can cause substantial stress for your student as they work to make up missed assignments.

How Absences Impact the School Community:

We believe every student at Waxpool is a contributing member of our community. Your student’s presence makes a difference in their classroom(s) and the daily events of the school.
Student attendance is an important metric used by the Virginia Department of Education for our yearly accreditation rating, specifically chronic absenteeism. A student is considered chronically absent if they miss 18 school days in a year, regardless of whether it is an excused or unexcused absence.

How We Can Partner Together with You:

Here is where we can use your help as parents and guardians:

Communicate your student’s excused absences via ParentVUE (Instructions).
Proactively connect with your student’s counselor with concerns/barriers to your student’s regular attendance.

Review your student’s attendance in ParentVUE and see where in this upcoming school year there could be improvement. Barring extenuating circumstances, we encourage families to monitor their student’s attendance and avoid more than three absences per quarter.
Please avoid scheduled school days for planning trips.
