THANK YOU, SKYLINE COMMUNITY!
Over $85,000 was raised at this year’s Auction. Incredible! These funds directly impact staffing at our school. We greatly appreciate the generous donations from our community, sponsor support and many hours of volunteer work from the Auction committee.
A new tradition is starting next school year. The Skyline rising 3rd grade class (2024-2025) will take over Auction management. This lightens the load for all involved. Upcoming third grade parents, reach out to skylineauction@gmail.com and Foundation will share their many years of wisdom!
Nike, Intel and Daimler will MATCH your cash donations made to the Auction - search Skyline Foundation EIN 84-2040549. Ask your employer if they’ll match & submit your receipts for matching ASAP!
All Skyline students are invited to participate in the spring talent show! Group and solo acts welcome. Counselor Kristi will have applications available for students to pick up at school (outside of the office) after Spring Break. Parents are welcome to attend the Talent Show, Wednesday June 5 at 8:45am in the gym.
OBOB📘📗📕📙
Battle of the Books!
Mia, Diego, Elsie and Cillian represented Skyline IB during the March 9th OBOB regionals in Tigard. During Pool Play - the 1st half of the competition - Skyline went undefeated and placed 4th out of 23 schools. 4th! Fantastic. Unfortunately, during the World Cup-style "Knockout Round", our OBOBers lost the first match of the Sweet 16 and had to go home. The whole thing was well-organized and super fun. I also thought, from my experience scorekeeping the quarters and semis of the Knockout Round, that Skyline should definitely return next year and compete. We were that close and, most importantly, displayed stellar sportspersonship. Thank you parents and volunteers!! - Mr. S
Our elementary (3rd-5th) regional competition for our school's winning team (the MACAWS) is Saturday, March 16th, 8:30 to at least noon (until 2:30 if we keep winning) at Capitol Hill Elementary School, 8401 SW 17th Ave., Portland, OR, 97219. More details on our library’s website (which is also at the top of the school webpage): https://sites.google.com/pps.net/skylinek-8library/home
Enrollment is open for Kindergarten. Please share this link with anyone in our community who is interested in sending their little one to Skyline next year.
Sammy & Friends
Hello,
Portland Public Schools (PPS) is invested in fostering safe, trauma-informed emergency drills that are taught and carried out in developmentally appropriate ways. Oregon schools are required to instruct and drill students on emergency procedures and it’s important that students are empowered to keep themselves safe in case of an emergency.
This week, Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd Grade students at our school will learn about Sammy the Sasquatch, Crittertopia, and the many ways Sammy practices safety. Crittertopia is kept safe by the Critter Elder’s magic. While it’s very unlikely a curious human will accidentally wander into Crittertopia, Sammy & Friends practice keeping Crittertopia safe by doing a Lockdown, “Locks, Lights, Out of Sight.” For more information on Sammy & Friends and resources to help empower your kids at home, please see that attached document.
School Counselors will read the illustrated children’s book, “Sammy the Sasquatch: Welcome to Crittertopia,” while students color an image of Sammy. About one week later the School Counselor will revisit the classroom with a Campus Safety Associates (CSAs) for a classroom coaching session. The team will focus on empowering students and providing choice throughout the Lockdown Classroom Coaching session, modeling how to do a Lockdown and allowing students to choose to practice together.
Classroom Coaching for Lockdown will not focus on any specific threat. Students will be able to ask questions which will be answered in trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate ways. Responses will always bring the focus back to:
Kids, and adults, practice safety in many different ways every day.
Doing a Lockdown does not mean school is unsafe. It means one of the caring adults did a great job of noticing.
School safety partners, like Campus Safety Associates (CSAs) and local first responders, are very good at their jobs and will respond quickly if students need help.
🦺🛑Parking Lot Safety🛑🦺
Please remember that only staff & busses are allowed past the chains in the parking lot between the hours of 8:15 - 3:30. In addition busses will remain parked until after the 8:45 bell going forward.

Lincoln High School's MYP Family Night
Come join us on March 20th from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the library to find out more about the Middle Years Program (MYP), our IB framework for 9th and 10th grade. Teachers have been working hard over the past couple of years to bring IB into our 9th and 10th grade classes. We are currently a candidate school and plan to become a fully authorized MYP school in the 2024-2025 school year. During this event, we plan to have students and families find out more about how this program has already been impacting the experience of Freshmen and Sophomore Cardinals as well as changes we are planning for next year, including the Personal Project Capstone and how MYP supports all students in their Diploma Program (DP) classes in 11th and 12th grades. All families are welcome, but we specifically hope to see students and families of our first cohort of MYP students, our rising 9th and 10th graders. In the meantime, you can find more information in this brochure as well as on the IB MYP webpage. Please RSVP here and reach out to Vice Principal Steve Pape, spape@pps.net, with questions.
