Pine Street Elementary School
Principal's Update
This has been a very exciting and event filled school year. We have had so many wonderful opportunities for students to enhance their learning through field trips and other special events at the school. Students have continued to impress me with their positive attitude, strong work ethic and focus on making Pine Street Elementary a school of dignity and respect.
We have been fortunate to have a number of volunteers at our school who donate hundreds of hours of their time to help us provide an outstanding learning environment. This volunteer involvement allows us to provide all of these additional activities and events. Your continued support this year makes this an exceptional learning environment for our students. Thank You!
I would also like to thank all our parents for supporting our school and the programming that we offer. Your kind and encouraging words inspire us to continue to excel. We truly appreciate your support and all the fundraising that you do.
I would also like to express my personal gratitude to the staff of Pine Street Elementary. You have continued to go above and beyond to provide outstanding educational programming for our students. The overwhelming number of extracurricular activities this year was astounding, and they all required significant time and effort from all involved. Thank you for your positive attitudes, dedication, commitment and giving so generously to our students because I know they all appreciate it.
Finally, thank you to the students of Pine Street Elementary for making this a wonderful place to learn and work. We are extremely proud of your accomplishments. Your enthusiasm towards learning makes our school such a wonderful place to grow and learn.
We have much to celebrate this year. We have accomplished so much, and we have all contributed to making this such a wonderful school. I wish you and your families a safe and restful summer and look forward to seeing you all in the fall.
Celebration of Learning
Families are welcome to attend and help celebrate our amazing grade 6 students!
There will be a slide show, students will walk across the stage and then pose for a class photo.
Please remember this is a grade 6 celebration and students should be dressed appropriately.
Lost & Found
There are 2 tables filled with unclaimed lost and found clothing. All unclaimed items will be donated by 3:30 on Wednesday, June 26.
Back to School for 2024-25
More information will be added to the Pine Street website in early June about the upcoming school year including the calendar, classroom maps, school supply lists and the bell schedule.
First Nations' Fridays
Travel by water is also important to the Northwest Territories and Nunavut because there are many islands in the northern regions of these territories. The water surrounding these islands is frozen for almost nine months of the year. During the short summer period, large boats and barges visit northern coastal communities to deliver mail and supplies. These boats come from as far away as Montréal and often carry the staple foods that families will need for a whole year.
The Inuit use their own boats for hunting in the lakes and ocean. The kayak, a very popular type of recreational boat, was invented by the Inuit. An Inuit kayak is a long, narrow, streamlined vessel with a frame made of wood or whale bones and then covered with animal skins. For example, sealskin is scraped clean of all hairs and then sewn to other skins in a watertight fashion for a safe and secure covering. The hunter's weapons can either be carried on the inside of the kayak or lashed to the side of the kayak.
