Crimson Newsletter - Oct. 28, 2024
October 28, 2024
From Principal Becker
It's a great time to be a Crimson!
What a year we've had already in Crimson Activities!
Among the many highlights:
- Girls' Tennis finished 3rd at State - the best season in program history!
- Girls' Volleyball knocked off the defending state champions (Wayzata) at sections, and play for their first-ever section championship Wednesday evening against Champlin! The game will be at Osseo Senior High at 7:00 p.m.
- Girls' and Boys' Cross Country gave their all at their section meet at Anoka; advancing to State are Dakota Laux, Kelsey Olson, April Watson, Kelsey Young, and Gannon Ferrens!
- Boys' Soccer advanced to the AAA State Semifinals at US Bank Stadium against NWSC rival, Andover. They play at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning (see below for fan bus and dismissal information).
- Crimson Football opened their post-season play in pursuit of the 6A state championship, defeating Burnsville, 55-6. Next up is Eden Prairie for the section championship this Friday at 7:00 p.m.!
- Girls' Swim and Dive prepare for their section meet at the Minnetonka Aquatic Center on November 7-9!
- Crimson Musical Theatre continues their steadfast preparation for the 2024 musical, The Addams Family! Opening night is Friday, November 8.
On the academic front, we have five weeks remaining in the first trimester, and each day counts. Please monitor your Crimson students' progress in Schoology and connect with teachers to collaborate for the success of your student. Time is our friend, and there is still much learning and assessing to complete before things wrap up the week of Thanksgiving.
We've received universally positive feedback from staff and families – and many students – about the expectations of no personal devices during instructional time. Students report greater focus and engagement, teachers report much stronger learning environments, and families love the accountability. It's not perfect, and our staff continue to work had to monitor and confiscate devices when we see them, but all in all, it's been a success here at Maple Grove.
As always, thank you for your support and partnership. There's so many amazing things occurring at Maple Grove, and we still have a long way to go! Feel free to contact me with any questions at beckerb@district279.org.
Yours very respectfully,
Bart Becker, Principal

**If depending on a fan bus to attend the game, it is highly recommended to delay purchasing a MSHSL game ticket until confirmation that we have enough drivers for the fan buses (likely the morning of the game). Game tickets can be purchased online at any time, including at US Bank Stadium upon arrival.
Permission to attend
DO NOT call, email, or send a note to Attendance.
To excuse students to attend the game(s), families login to EduTrak.
- Select the "Permission Slips/Registration" tab
- Select "Maple Grove Senior High"
- Scroll down and choose the appropriate event for your student:
- “State Girls’ (or) Boys' Soccer Permission to Drive,” or

Go Crimson! #FearTheLeaf
**When State tournament contests occur during a school day at a venue which allows for a large number of spectators (US Bank, Target Center, Xcel Energy, Williams Arena, etc.), we work to arrange fan buses for students and staff to attend. Unfortunately, this is not possible for every State tournament across due to the logistics of some events which do not allow for the mass attendance of additional spectators. We are grateful for every chance to celebrate our amazing Crimson students who represent Maple Grove in competition!
