PTA Mini Grant Awarded to Support Abernethy Library Improvements
Congratulations go out to Ms.Jamsgard, Ms. Nowak and the Abernethy Library! Ms. Jamsgard submitted a mini-grant request for clear bins to better organize our beloved library.
Our library staff has been working to clean up the library collection, removing older books, worn out books and books not getting much circulation. In doing this process we have also been creating an Early Reader section. The new Early Reader section is in forward-facing bins, which are numbered and organized by reading levels, popular series and nonfiction titles. Kids are discovering this section to find books they are excited about and can use to work on their reading skills. They have also improved the Chapter Books bin. This section is organized by series and areas of high interest, in forward-facing bins. Our library staff is thrilled to see that a lot more chapter books are being circulated based on the ease of kids being able to access the books they want.
Next, we will be working on the nonfiction section of the library. This project is bigger and they hope to finish it before the year ends. This involves culling old, worn and outdated titles to free up the shelves, making them more inviting for students to browse the areas they want to learn about. There will be forward-facing bins interfiled within the nonfiction section of the library, that will be showcasing some of the series, popular topics and the many great lower-level books we have in the collection. Our hope is that the younger kids will be able to access nonfiction with better results. And as time allows we hope to do a bit of a reorganization in the Graphic Novel section too. Never a dull moment!
Thanks also to you, the families and members of the Abernethy PTA, who help make the funding of these kinds of materials possible.
With gratitude, The PTA Mini-Grant Committee,
Mark Lawson (Ori, 5th), Juliet Grey (Julian, 4th), Stephanie Engelsman (Sydney β 4th, Eichman, Calliope β 4th, Day, Ida β 3rd, Bielman)
