Help with FAFSA Form
Just a reminder that GCCCAN is hosting a FAFSA Workshop on Tuesday, March 25th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the GISD Erwin Davis Education Center.
High school seniors and their parents can stop in to get help completing their FAFSA from college financial aid representatives. This is even more important this year since it is the only way to access the Michigan Achievement Scholarship and the Community College Guarantee.
Currently, 37% of high school seniors in our county have completed the FAFSA.

Spring Break Food Distribution
From St. Jude's Church (a valuable community partner):
For those on a tight budget, Spring Break can put a damper on a family’s food budget when your children are home during the day. St. Jude’s Church can help. We would like to provide the children in your family with a week’s supply of breakfast and lunch groceries to help your family bridge the gap for meals your child would normally receive during that week.
The Spring Break Food Distribution is at St. Jude’s Church (106 E. Elizabeth St. at
corner of S. Leroy St. and Elizabeth St.) on Saturday, March 29th between 9 am and
3pm.
We are excited about partnering with Fenton, Lake Fenton and Linden schools to
help people in our community. There are no pre-requisites for the program, just show up
(if you have a reusable grocery bag, you could bring it along). We look forward to seeing
you on Saturday, March 29th.
If transportation to St. Jude’s is an issue for you, please let us know and we can
arrange to have the groceries delivered. Simply call the church office at 810-629-5681
and let us know how many children there are in your family and the delivery location.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at the number above.

The Genesee Intermediate School District has launched the new Beyond Graduation website. This website is for Genesee County residents, ages 14-26. The site provides information and resources for career and college planning, skilled trades, and apprenticeship programs, and transition planning for students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan.
A major focus of the site is on helping high school students plan their future beyond graduation, and to help guide them through important decisions on how to get there.
A toolkit that contains sample content, graphics, and promotional materials has been developed to assist educators with sharing information about the Beyond Graduation website in their schools and community.
The Beyond Graduation toolkit, along with toolkits for promoting College Planning and Genesee Opportunity (GO), is located here:

Work Permits
Under 16 years: https://www.michigan.gov/leo/bureaus-agencies/ber/wage-and-hour/work-permits
Age 16–17 yrs: https://www.michigan.gov/leo/bureaus-agencies/ber/wage-and-hour/work-permits
- Beginning April 2, 2025, HB 5594 will change work-hour restrictions for 14- and 15-year-olds to align with federal law, limiting them to 3 hours per school day, 18 hours per school week, and 40 hours per non-school week, with work allowed only between 7 AM and 7 PM (or 9 PM from May 31 until Labor Day).
- Effective on or before Friday, October 2, 2026, the process for issuing and revoking minor work permits will shift away from schools to the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) through a new statewide online registration system.
- There will be some additional, minimal process for employers and minors (or their parents), as well as a new database of authorized youth employers available online, but that process will be handled entirely by LEO once they take over the work permit system.
- MASSP has been in contact with LEO about this shift and anticipates a detailed implementation guide from the state later this winter as the first effective date approaches.
