Noon Message to Families
September 16, 2024
Cedar Hill ISD Families & Community,
The Cedar Hill Independent School District will always put the safety of our students and staff the top priority. Less than a month into the new school year, we received a stark reminder.
First, it was a tragedy that occurred at a high school in Georgia, where two students and two staff members were killed.
Then, a 17-year-old Dallas ISD was killed at a gas station after a football game in Dallas -- only a handful of miles from Cedar Hill.
And just last week, school districts across our area were riddled with social media posts and texts with messages that threaten school safety. Thankfully, these threats were later determined to be non-credible.
Regardless, Cedar Hill ISD took several precautions, including an extra police presence and the postponement of some sporting events.
When it comes to security, the Cedar Hill ISD Police Department – and their law enforcement partners in the region – are professionals who take the lead on ensuring safety in our communities.
But if the past week has taught us anything, it’s that everyone has the responsibility of keeping us safe.
Individuals can call the police directly with tips, or submit an Anonymous Alert -- either way the Cedar Hill ISD Police Department will follow up with an investigation. It’s important for parents and guardians to have age-appropriate conversations with their children to understand that violence is never the answer.
Here are some safety tips to ensure that message resonates.
- Talk to your child daily. Ask them about their day and interests.
- Monitor your child’s social media and text messages.
- If you have guns in your home, please make sure they are secured.
- Talk to your child about not agreeing to meet up to fight or record fights as they are happening.
- Remind them that restroom breaks are for taking care of their personal needs, and NOT for planning or participating in activities that violate the Student Code of Conduct.
- Keep your children busy and involved in activities they enjoy.
- Remind them that if they see something that threatens their safety or the safety of others to please report it to a trusted adult.
Thank you, and together, we can work to make our community safe and secure.

Exxon to Replace Pipeline Near Bessie Coleman
ExxonMobil will be replacing a portion of the pipeline near Calf Pasture Park, on Moore Street, in Cedar Hill. This routine replacement will largely go unnoticed in our community, but there’s one apartment complex – Wilson Crossing Apartments – whose children will be inconvenienced for about six weeks.
From September 16 through the end of October, Cedar Hill ISD buses will pick up in the morning (and, return in the afternoon) scholars in front of the apartment complex, which is away from the work zone on each side of the property.
Study Island
Our district has purchased a subscription to a research-based standards mastery program called Study Island. During our subscription, your child can access Study Island free of charge anywhere that Internet access is available. Study Island has site-wide security features in place to provide greater peace of mind.
Study Island is completely Web-based, which allows students to access the program from any computer with an Internet connection and a standard Web browser. Study session results are automatically recorded for teacher review, including results from sessions completed outside of school. The program is divided into sections based on subject (math, reading, etc.). Each section is made up of 15 to 30 topics, with each topic containing about 20 to 30 questions. Topics are accompanied by a lesson, which contains a brief overview of the material covered in that topic.

The 2024-25 Teen Superintendent's Student Roundtable Application Window is Now Open!
We are excited to introduce a new initiative: the Teen Superintendent Roundtable (formally known as the Superintendent Student Roundtable). This program is specifically designed for our 8th and 12th-grade students, offering a unique opportunity to collaborate directly with district leadership on matters important to them and our community. Through this initiative, students will engage in meaningful discussions, share their perspectives, and contribute to the development of Cedar Hill ISD. It’s a platform where their voices can be heard, and their ideas can help shape the future of our district. We believe this Roundtable will not only empower our students but also foster a stronger sense of community and leadership among them.
