PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:
Dear Boulder Creek Families,
It is amazing how quickly the school year is coming to an end. Our character trait focus in the month of April is Perseverance. Students are taught that Perseverance is sticking with something even though you’re tired, it’s hard, you’re fed up, or uninspired. Perseverance is one of my favorite character traits because, with it, you can do anything! We have already done so much hard work...and we still have some to go.
Students will be persevering through state and district assessments which begin after Spring Break. There should be less of an assignment load from teachers. Be sure your child maintains good attendance throughout testing, as it can sometimes be uncomfortable to miss class to make up testing. In addition, please be sure your child is getting plenty of sleep, has a good breakfast, and is on time for school during the three-week window of testing. Let’s work together to set them up for an optimal opportunity to show what they learned after all their hard work during this school year. They really have come a long way!
There is much to read about below. Please scroll down and watch for the information that pertains to you. As always, feel free to reach out to any of our staff members through e-mail if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Tina Croes

7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE
Many of you have asked, “What are these ‘7 Habits’ my child keeps talking about at home?” It’s a great question! Every day your children are learning the 7 Habits framework. These are tools and skills for developing into young leaders. If your kids are talking about the Habits at home, that means these helpful tools are sticking, even beyond the classroom! Celebrate this with them! Below are highlights and conversation starters for Habits 4-6 (1-3 in March Bear Facts).
HABIT 1: THINK WIN/WIN
Habit Highlight - Habit 4
While our first three habits teach our children how to be their best selves, the next 3 habits are all about how they interact with the world around them. Habit 4 teaches students to THINK WIN/WIN. This means that in relationships, we don’t try to win at the expense of others, but with courage AND consideration we can find solutions where EVERYONE wins.
Habit at Home - Conversation Starters:
TK-1st: What are you really good at and can teach to others?
2nd-3rd: Do you get more excited on your birthday or your best friend’s birthday? Why?
4th+: Is it ever right to do the wrong thing? Is it ever wrong to do the right thing?
HABIT 2: SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD
habit Highlight - Habit 5
Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood! This habit dives into effective communication by teaching your child the power of LISTENING and LEARNING before expressing. Before sharing thoughts or solutions, leaders understand others' perspectives in order to foster stronger connections.
Habit at Home - Conversation Starters:
TK-1st: If you could be any animal, what would you be? Why?
2nd-3rd: What makes someone a hero?
4th+: What family member are you most like? In what way?
HABIT 3: SYNERGIZE
Habit Highlight - Habit 6
This habit is all about teamwork and collaboration. Your child has been learning that together, we can achieve more than we can alone. Imagine the power of combining everyone's strengths and ideas to reach common goals. It's like creating magic through cooperation!
Habit at Home - Conversation Starters:
TK-1st: Who is your best friend? Why?
2nd-3rd: Who is the strongest person you know?
4th+: If you could teach a life lesson to a large group of people, what would it be?

WHAT IS TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN?
2024-2025 REGISTRATION IS OPEN NOW
Welcome to Kindergarten/Transitional Kindergarten (TK) at Boulder Creek!
California has made Transitional Kindergarten (TK) universally available (although not required). The curriculum and approach in TK are designed to bridge the gap between preschool and elementary school, providing an extra year to acquire kindergarten readiness.
Children who turn 4 years old by June 2, 2024 are eligible for Transitional Kindergarten (TK). Note: Students who turn 4 between between June 3rd and September 2, 2024 are considered Early TK (ETK). ETK students may be enrolled in a TK program depending on available space and readiness.
Children who turn 5 years old on or before September 2, 2024 are eligible for Kindergarten.

PARENT PORTAL LOG-IN
All parents, including new parents, should have logged into the Parent Portal at some point already. Why do you need to create a parent account? This is a secure platform through which you will view your child's teacher/class, receive your child’s report card, complete enrollment, and complete the necessary beginning of the year school forms like your child's emergency card. In the future, this is also how state testing results will be communicated.
Click HERE for the link to the parent portal. If you cannot log-in successfully, please call our school's office at 224-4140 or email our Student Services Clerk, Devin McComas, at kjones@eesd.net. Be sure to keep your log-in information in a safe but accessible place.
