Principal's Message 5.20.22
.
Thank you so much for participating in our Ice Cream Social event on Monday. What a joyful community building event! It was fun to be together learning, talking, playing, and making memories. I am honored to lead this collaborative community of learners. I know that what makes our school so special are the people. Thank you for being part of our cooperative community. And a special thank you to our PTA for helping to organize and host the evening.
There will be more opportunities for community cooperation over the next few weeks as we work together to keep learning and to celebrate all the growth we've made together this year. We'll have the talent show Monday, the Pizza Lunches for our jog-a-thon participants this week, a third grade music performance, a visit for 5th graders to LOJ, as well as class parties, field day, and more! All in the next 3 weeks!
Rest well this weekend, and enjoy the sunny weather. We'll learn and play together again on Monday!
Be well,
Principal Jennie Knapp
SEL Theme for May: Cooperation
During May, we will work together to practice the character trait of COOPERATION in our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons, classrooms, and throughout our school.
As a school community, we will be examining how Cooperation looks, sounds, and feels. Cooperation is about assistance, support, collaboration, & teamwork. It is a necessary tool in our toolbox for creating a community that cares for one another.
Students will be encouraged to use cooperation skills such as communication, self-awareness, and the ability to step up (or step back) when the time is right to best support whatever group you are working with. Using these skills will help us to work alongside one another and create things, together, that are better than anything we could create on our own.
Here are links for extension activities to explore COOPERATION further as a family:

i-Ready Spring Assessment
Soon, elementary students in Lake Oswego will complete two online i-Ready assessments in class. One is for math and the other is for reading. As you know, i-Ready is a program that helps us determine your child’s strengths and areas for future growth. This is the third of three i-Ready diagnostic assessments we give each year, and the results will be shared with parents before the summer break. For kindergartners, this will be their second i-Ready assessment.

State Assessment Score Reports
This summer, LOSD will deliver students’ state assessment results online through ParentVUE rather than mailing paper. This is in keeping with the district’s strategic goal of sustainability and mirrors how we deliver report cards. Your child’s assessment reports will appear on your ParentVUE Documents page in late July. As you review your student’s English Language Arts, math, and science scores, please keep in mind:
- An achievement level of 3 or 4 is considered to be on track for the student’s grade level.
- Scores on state assessments are only one measure of a student’s academic progress. We use these scores in conjunction with classroom work and other daily, weekly, monthly, and term assessments to understand your student’s strengths and areas for improvement.
Time to Verify Your Student's Information
Beginning April 29, LOSD needs parents/guardians of all students enrolled for the 2022-23 school year to log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. This benefits both families and schools by:
- Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your address or contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.
- Confirming parent email addresses for Google Classroom and other applications to participate in your student's learning.
- Enabling distribution of key information in the district's K-12 Family Handbook.
