BHS Happenings

We hope that all of our students did amazing on their midterms and have transitioned smoothly into their Semester 2 courses. Semester 1 Report Cards will be available through the PowerSchool Parent Portal this Thursday, January 30th. This is just a reminder that report cards are no longer mailed home and you will need to log into your PowerSchool account in order to view the report card. If you are having trouble with your account, please reach out to the main office at BHS at 860-286-2630.

On January 29th and 30th, students will be taking a Horizon Benchmark Assessment in their English and Math classrooms. This assessment is aligned to the PSAT/SAT and allows the district and school to utilize the data to help inform curriculum, instruction and assessment. It is a great predictor of future success on the SAT's. Students will need to bring a charged laptop to class, be on time and try their best!

• On Friday, January 17th, BHS' Varsity Girls Co-Op Team fell to SMSA, 41-51.
• On Tuesday, January 21st, BHS' Varsity Girls Co-Op Team defeated Lyman Memorial, 41-29 at BHS on Senior Night. Congratulations to BHS' Senior Varsity Girls Basketball Student-Athletes, Taylor Jackson and Kyelah Smith!

Bloomfield High School Senior, Charles Fennell is adding another academic feat to his already impressive resume. Charles a well-known scholar in the Bloomfield School District has just done something that no other Bloomfield High School student has ever done. Charles' most recent SAT score is not only the highest SAT score ever on record at Bloomfield High School, but also places him in the 99th percentile of all SAT test takers in the world.

The SAT is one of the most prominent standardized tests used by colleges during the admissions process. The SAT is scored on a scale with 1600 being the highest possible score. A score of 1550 indicates that you answered almost every question correctly on the exam and puts you in a strong position for admission to the most selective schools. According to College Board, 1.97 million high school students took the SAT in 2024. Charles scored higher than 1,950,300 students.

Charles has achieved an impressive 4.0 GPA as a student at BHS where he has achieved high honors every quarter! Before coming to BHS, he was named the Connecticut Spelling Bee Champion in 2018 as an 8th grader at Carmen Arace Middle School. He is also heavily involved in the BHS community. Charles is a member of the cross country and track teams, where he was named all-conference in track and field, a member of the CAS-CIAC State Student Advisory Council on Education, a 2024 CIAC Sportsmanship Conference Panelist, and a member of BHS' National Honors Society and French Honors Society. Charles plans to major in Political Science and wants to make a significant impact on the world.

BHS students have been able to learn about a variety of different opportunities available to them in the trades through various informational sessions offered this year. Just yesterday, BHS hosted an informational session on the sheet metal field, where interested students learned about the profession, training, and personal experience of a current sheet metal worker. Today, students are hearing from someone in the pipefitters profession. These informational sessions will help our students interested in a career in the trades, determine what trade fits them best and how to start the process. We are very thankful to Senior School Counselor, Mrs. Shannon Trombino for setting up these informational sessions and all of the presenters who have taken the time to engage our students with information regarding their field.
